Default expired tags on truck

so im buying an old truck and the plates are expired since 1987, does anyone know if all these rumors of (after 10 years it falls off the dmv system) is true?
this guy is giving me the run around on this truck im buying from him and im not about to pay back fees from 87 to 2013 lol

anyone know FOR SURE whats the deal with expired tags in CA?

I think you can look it up by vin or plate number

u know what bro, i had my friend whos a cop run the plates yesterday and told me they have been expired since 1987 lol, so idk what the **** ima do, i already bought the truck so either ima pay a lot to register this bitch or it will fall off the system idk

i think they will waive the fee if you tell them you been restoring it last time i had mine out for a few years they asked me if it was because of restoration i said yes and they waived the fee

also when u go in to the dmv tell them it's a rv not a truck, all u need is a toper or tono cover 4 the bead. if u do that it will exempt the extra CA $100 a year u own a truck fee.. & i believe they caped the back fees to 2 years . before thay did that I was looking @ a blazer that had truck plates & like $850 in back fees! & if i had got car plates insted (it"s not a truck it"s a wagon ) it was like 1/2 as much but still to much for the asking price @ the time :/ but same thing if u go rv plates on a truck the back fes will be much less
