For now, I'm just saving my money for a pre 75 project car to do an lsx turbo swap into.

Just curious why not pre 76? might open ya up to more possibilities, 75 and older are smog exempt.

Per the DMV's site, it's still 75 and older, otherwise I would look at 76 too.

Does my vehicle qualify for a smog exemption?

Smog inspections are required unless your vehicle is:

Hybrid
Gasoline powered 1975 year model or older
Diesel powered 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs
Electric
Natural gas powered with a GVWR rating of more than 14,000 lbs.
Motorcycle
Trailer

Pre 76 means 75 and older you said pre 75.... so again i ask why not look at 1975 model year?

Your original statement said I am looking for pre 1975, pre meaning before so that is to say 1974 and older, I asked why not pre 1976, which is 1975 and older...

and it will probably get worse which is one of the big reasons i will only keep my ss as a track car when its done. i have a 68 military jeep pick up. that i going to put a twin turbo cummins in it. and ill never have to worry about smog in it.

It is what it is and it will be what it will be. I agree with all of ya'll that its gotten out of hand but there are always ways around. Where there is a will (and MONEY) there is a way.

I guess I should have been much more specific in my original post. I have nothing against 1975 model year vehicles. So yes, my search for a potential lsx swap vehicle will definitely include vehicles from the 1975 model year and older.

My apologies if my post misled you in any way.

Oh don't get me wrong I was more asking in a helping way in case you hadn't pondered that possibility, no disrespect meant, just asking is all.

Right? Property out there isn't too badly priced either. rent it out for the most part let the tenants know that our registration is sent there lol. No one will catch on that 10 guys who own Fbody's register their car from the same address.. lol

Ahh but your car is more energy efficient than that prius, you are actually burning your energy better, hence the HP gains. Also to make that car it is way more environmentally unfriendly than your car will ever be.

is it going to be a big advantage having a 2000 camaro vs a 1999 due to the lack of a sniffer test?

Sniffer test has not entirely gone away for 2K & newer cars. It was mandatory before, now it is at the discretion of the smog tech.
