Default Anyone else holding back on mods due to new smog laws?

I really want to put some money in the car but damn I'm not even sure if I'll be able to drive it next year... Anyone else in the same boat?

ALL OF US!!! Duh, I thought you knew!

I actually had PatG spec a cam for me today and regrettably, I had to put "smog legal" under the special considerations column.

I'm just glad i got a 2000, computer check only. I can bypass the sniffer test at least.

Not necessarily true & / or correct.
The STAR has been temporarily rescinded or at least is not being done by almost all smog stations as they are not certain what to do & how to do it. So all that I have heard about are still doing it the old way. Also, under the new STAR program, the smog tech can sniff the car if he suspects for any reason that the car may not pass.
Do not pass go,
do not collect $200,
go directly to jail.

I've stopped putting money into the car for now until some people start posting real world results towards the end of this year. The new DAD unit testing won't go into development until April, preliminary testing in July, and then a select few STAR shops in November, with full roll out not until January 2014.

For now, I'm just saving my money for a pre 75 project car to do an lsx turbo swap into.

I kinda am even though I dont live in California. It is getting harder to find someone to overlook certain 'deleted' item anymore. EPA must have put the fear of god in the emission inspectors around here.

This could get very interesting in the PRK if you are driving a 2000 or newer modded car.
I'm thinking that this is not a good thing for the PRK hooligans. Hasn't been a good thing since the '70's or so, and will only get tougher as we go down the road.

What a crock this emission thing is. Nothing but a cash grab and anyone with half a grain of salt between their ears knows it! Ask "Mr Google" when you get a chance "how green is my electric car?" Then just when you think you have been screwed really good, look up the emissions of a diesel burning engine and what those little darlings are pumping into the atmosphere. Then go one step further and look up how China is handling R12 and the damage they are doing right now... the list goes on but that is just a couple to show just how stupid this all really is. Big companies are getting away with murder and we are made out to be the bad guys. I say point your gun in the right direction before you pull the trigger there boys! By putting cars in the spotlight what have they done?,... taken the public eye away from the real culprits so they can go about making their millions... complete BS in my eyes

Seriously... Amen to this, and the batteries in those darling Prius's come from China.... Hmmm isn't that grand..

Oh and how about the fact that Jerry Brown (our Governor) pushed to enact ARB and CARB back in the day with his buddies, when his father who had vested interest in oil companies based in the phillipines, and got those two entities set in place with people we don't vote on to regulate emissions and we don't vote on what laws get passed, they are unregulated and can do what they want to do freely.

Now after Jerry Brown went and got ARB and CARB into place a lot of oil jobs went to off shore oil companies and his father made a crap ton of money....
