Default Getting Around CA Smog

Was wondering if anyone knows of any shops in the south bay that will be willing to overlook the visual. Heard it's kind of risky area to getting around. Want to put some LT's along w/ a few other bolt ons within the next month without having to worry about smog. Know pretty much everyone has there own hookup and may not want it public. PM me if anyone has a good answer... for the mean time I guess I may just have to search around the area (which will be a pain in da a**) but will be worth it in the long run.

YES. Shops will get fined $20,000 for doing this. No offense, but no one in their right mind would repley to this. I don't know how you are going to search around for this either. If you go and ask smog shops if they will overlook illegal mods they will answer NO. There are undercover people sent out to smog shops to do this very thing. They might even get mad at you for asking. Who is going to risk $20,000 to tell one customer "go ahead and bring your car in, we don't do a visual."

Absolutely true. In the Cali Mod World, who you know means everything.

i don't see how you would get in trouble if you bought emission friendly lt's b/c a lot of places will just hook you to the sniffer w/o looking around. just be careful where you go.

or just make sure you run cats, good cats, and if the guy fails you on visual then you gotta swap back to your stockers for a weekend.. that would suck...

Holly **** I didnt know that it was that big of a deal. I though that it would be easy for him to find a shop that would overlook the visual. Man Cali has some gay emissions laws .

What happens if you dont pass the visual? Do you get fined? Can you just go to another shop and hope they dont do the visual?

Ive done smog in CA once and I dont think they did the visual.

It's all about who you know. Lots of people have been able to get around the CA smog. But once again, it's about who you know. You could always do a pretest and go from there. Some people have passed a real smog, eventhough they have LT's and other bolt-on's.

Not legally with long tubes and sans cats. Is there more to the story? I'd be all over a smog-legal 400rwhp N/A car.

I knew there was more to the story. With a set of CARB headers and the cats, your car would pass anyway.

honestly i dont even think there is reason enought to go the illegal route anymore; with people like patrick and vortech proving 400rwhp can be had with an effient h/c package with stock manifolds and exhausts and 100% emissisons legal. not to mention the STS has a carb number and will provide more then enough power then what an smog illegal setup will do. or spend a bit more for a procharger P1.

hell, im changing my setup from a 12.1 forged race motor, with heads, huge cam, long tubes, true duals, !egr/!air ect. to an STS.

if you get picked for a test only place thats state run your **** out of luck unless you go completely back to stock.

P1 isnt "really" smog exempt for the LS1 Camaro. However, most shops wont dig deep enough to find out.

Didnt know that STS had an EO number assigned. When did that happen?
