Default Anyone live in La Jolla?

Well it looks like I'll be moving to La Jolla next month to attend UCSD. Anyone have any tips for where to find good apts/good areas/etc etc?

Any info would be appreciated and I look forward to meeting all the fellow SD fbod crowd.

All of La Jolla is nice.

You will not find a "cheap" place in La Jolla. You should look in the "PB - Pacific Beach" area. "Clairmont" area is somewhat close to UCSD and much more affordable for students.

I'm transferring as a junior in Mechanical Engineering.

How's the car scene in SD? I had a choice between Cal Poly SLO, UCSB and UCSD. I had such a hard time choosing since they were all great schools but I heard SD had a large fbod scene so it helped in my final decision

There are a buncha members from SD on here. SD is nice, I have a few friends that go there, you can see the ocean from their campus apartments. Good luck with your transfer!

if you stay away from the beaches you can save tons of $$..

La Jolla is the high rent district...Pacific beach is nice lost of college kids..but again it'll cost ya..

Mira Mesa is close to the college ~6-7 miles and would be the closet "affordable" area...Now..if your willing to have roomates all bets are off and you can live like sardines anywhere...wind and sea is very nice!

Another good site for rentals is www.sdrentals.com . The search is free you just have to subscribe to get the phone numbers and exact addresses if you see something you like. And yea, La Jolla is expensive. Not to bad around UTC but still pricey.

Car scene here is strong, lots of fbodys. We're a pretty tight group. Like Bruce said check out www.sdcarscene.com

I graduated from UCSD and left the area 3 yrs ago. I have business there so I visit once a month on average. Here is what I have to offer:

Rental advice- In addition to what others have said, try Imperial Beach. Its a drive, but you can find relatively affordable apts. AND be near the beach. If you live east of the 15 fwy, plan on at least an hour commute for morning classes. Factor this in when comparing apartments & prices. Factor in the cost of parking on campus versus living closer and taking the bus or shuttle in. When I attended, parking was about $100/quarter. Family housing is waaaay cheap (I paid less than $600/mo, 2BR/2BA), but you know what that takes...
There are no "bad" areas around UCSD.

The scene- I was told that 9 out of 10 hotties chose UCSB, the rest chose UCSD. Find a friend at State and go to their parties...I don't think they allow ugly women at State.
Agreed, PB is a blast. Added bonus...you can walk home or call a cab after a long night at the bar. More mellow is Old Town. I still love a yard of Guiness at O'Hungrys & a stogie at Excalibur's....................................... .......
Sounds like you got the fbod scene down.
