stupid ventura county sheriff Aid or Abet a speed contest need help
i was in camarillo on sat night. We were at a road no racing had happened. No cars were linned up, and there were no burnouts. cops rolled up blocked us in and gave out 13 speed contest tickets, and impounded one car that they said was racing. They wrote all 13 people with 23108(b)vc speed contest aid or abet speed contest and misdemeanor's. How do you think we can fight this?

In court my attorney asked the ticketing officer when I got mine, "How many tickets were written to participants of the speed contest"
When the cop said "none"
My attorney said "appears to me my client didn't aid and abet anything, were done here."
Unless the laws have changed, if they didn't write any tickets for racing, you should be off the hook. One car impounded ? It takes two to make a speed contest.
BTW, 23109b is aid and abet
Good luck

Bad break man. I'm pretty sure you're considered a spectator even if only preparations are being made and no race is actually occuring.
What will probably work in your favor is what 1BADDAM said, because a "motor vehicle speed contest includes a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device." With only one car, how could there be a speed contest?

there were no real preperations we were just standing there talking. the vht was still int he back of the car. when didn't even get a chance to air down the tires. lmao. i would take a spec ticket but not a misdemeanor aid and abet. especially since i already have a misdemeanor speed contest ticket.

I got busted for this 1 night back in 92 on Alameda and Del Amo. Except for the guys the took to jail for racing, EVERYBODY got an "Aiding and abetting a speed contest" ticket. They gave out 192 tickets, took 6 people to jail (warants) and impounded 12 cars that night. Compton court was inundated the day we all showed up. They put us in groups of 8 people and assigned each group a public defender. His question, "Did you touch the cars (impounded for racing)? Did you put gas in the car? Did you push the car?" Since we all answered no to these questions he got it knocked down to a disturbing the peace ticket ($50 vs $175 or so at the time). The funny part was this guy, his wife and their 2 kids. He told the judge he couldn't afford $200 for all for of them that day. The judge gave him a "family" discount of $35 each. The kicker was that nobody told us about the "court cost" of $85 each. So it cost me $135 to watch the street races for 15 minutes that night - but, there was no points, just a simple "disturbing the peace" ticket.
SOOOOOO, if you weren't doing anything you might get off without you needing to pay for a lawyer by letting the court appoint one to you.

go to a traffic lawyer, these guys have "friendships" w/ the judges cause they work togther all the time.
lawyer can be well worth the money in the long run.
this is a 2 point violation, your insurance will triple for 3 years.
is that worth the risk of a public deffender?
