Please stop recalling the horrors of that movie, I'm still having nightmares... Wait, not because of the movie, but because of my FREAKING MOTION SICKNESS FROM THE 2ND ROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Note: Never had motion sickness..................until Cloverfield)

It was great for what it was. It was more of an experience than a movie, in my interpretation. It was like "here is a piece of video evidence recovered, watch it". Nothing more, nothing less. If there was an official ending with the killing/leaving of the monster, then it would have destroyed the concept of the movie.
As for a sequel, all they would have to do is "find" another tape, right?
The only thing that irritated me was the constant intentional jarring of the camera in the first 15 minutes or so of the film (before the action started). That seemed too contrived. No one can be that bad at operating a camera.
