For my 92 T/A I got a headlight repair kit from top-downsolutions

http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...products_id=87

It worked great, but I don't know if it will work on the 4thgens.

I put the plastic gears back in. I got them from Rock Auto for $10 each which is way cheaper then the brass and a lot cheaper than buying a new motor and it's worked perfect.
I'm sure they went with plastic because of cost. I'd take anything the dealership said with a grain of salt. Maybe they're right, but here's another way to look at:

If your brass gear got jammed, you'd notice your headlight getting stuck upon opening or closing it, because you'd have a half-opened or half-closed headlight. Also, if your motor continued running, you'd hear that too. Maybe your motor busted because it was old/overused since these electric motors don't run forever.
