funny you t/a guys make fun of the camaro guys, last time i checked the only problem my car had was there was always woman trying to crawl into it, sometimes scratching the doors with their high heels and jewelry.

PM RedHotTransAm... I seem to remember seeing a thread awhile back where he told someone how to fix thiers... not sure if was the same situation though. Try a search, either for the headlight or for RHTA's name and see if you can find a thread explaining it.

where it sat in the engine compartment.. on the left side of the fuse box..
opened up...
Ok... we think this little do-hickey here is the problem. But...read somewhere that the Trans Am's/firebirds dont have relays..so, what is this part?

Holy crap you were given some dumb@ss advice in this thread...
Ok, well you figured out the hard way it is a reverse polarity switch (i.e. grounding it is not a solution).
Whatever ghetto crap you have done, un-do it and make it wired like the factory had it again...
Now, check the connectors for rust on the inside (Trans-Ams have a lot of problems with this, usually the turn signals though). If no rust and all the connections look good then check your relays and fuses...
If those are good, then it is the box you are playing with. It is the control module for the headlights. It is what switches polarity and what also senses the load on the motor so it knows when to stop spinning it.
Sometimes motors installed wrong will mess up like you are saying but since you were able to make the motor work when you grounded it I would say you need a new box... Find someone on here or ebay parting cars out and buy it, should be cheap ($20-$50).
