Yup racing was a problem...they opened terminal island...street racing was drastically reduced...then they closed it and the street racing came back. I think this scenerio has happened like 2 or 3 times with its opening and closing.

Big Willie and The Brotherhood Raceway
P.S.: I'm old and remember "back in the day". Used to race my 67 Camaro at TI. Anybody else remember when they had a big "to do" with a lot of Pontiac Folks and a jet car caught the back stop on fire? Ahhhh, those were the days.
And it's not like this is anything new. Back in '92 I got caught up in a big bust by the Carson Sheriff when they raided at Del Amo and Alameda. Cops were video taping offenders. They blocked Alameda off at both ends. My car looked exactly like one of the ones on tape (primered 67 Camaro with an orange cowl hood). They hasseled me but determined it wasn't my car. I showed up at ~1am (coming from a friends house in Wilmington and decided to check out the scene) and the bust went down shortly thereafter. 12 people taken to jail, 6 cars impounded and 192 tickets handed out. I was towards the end and didn't get away from there (after a thorough search and paperwork check) til about 3:30am.

"Authorities want to send a strong message."
When are authorities going to realize that with the racetracks getting shut down (Terminal Island, Pomona, Carlsbad, and LACR) that racers have no choice but to find an abandoned street. There are only two tracks left in SoCal, Irwindale and Fontana. Irwindale is 1/8 mile and open on Thursday nights. Fontana is open less than once a month. Carlsbad and LACR used to be open every weekend. There is also Famoso, which is 2-3 hours away for most people here. How would you like to be told you cant do your favorite hobby any more?
