There are no technical California smog legal cat assemblys. Although you would probaly pass no problem though still illegal.

If you are fabing up cats to an ORY pipe, you will still be able to pass, and if you are not changing the 1) number or 2) the location of the cats, you may even be legal. But I could be wrong. I would only invest on an ORY pipe if I was planning to run headers and a catback, otherwise I wouldn't expect to see much of any increase.

i was actually planning to invest in a y pipe with the high flow cats already there. But as i understand, it's just a bolt on, and the cats are still there, so how can i not pass smog with high flows...
Are high flow cats even worth installing??

i was thinking something like this ( but have not decided yet)

I don't think you will have a problem passing the 'emissions' part, but if the cats are not in there exact stock location, you could fail the 'visual inspection' part. I don't think that the inspector will know any better though. As I said before, I would only get an ORY pipe if I was going to get other complimenting mods.

Well black_phoenix, That is the exact same ypipe and cat combo I got, Its awesome(or so my dad tells me since Ive never seen it in person, one month left!!!), I went through a similar process trying to build a somg/Vis inspection compliant car but it aint possible. High flow cats are illegal-end of story. The ONLY cats that are legal are the stockers, go ahead and call random tech or magnaflow and they should tell you the same thing they told me and a couple of others-only stock cats are legal, anything else will fail visual. I just decided **** it if they want to inspect my car(refstation) Ill crawl under the car and reinstall the factory ypipe for the inspection. Sorry dude.

I have the mac midlength and y pipe set up on my 98 bird. mine has the provisions for my egr and air injection. i just got smogged about 1 month ago and passed. my headers dont even have a carb or eo number on them. the guy also didnt mention anything about my cats. i went to a test only center too. after the y pipe my piping feeds into two 3 inch resonators to keep the noise down and then borla catback full three inch all the way back.

I have shorties and just had a y-pipe made. I do feel a difference. Before at part throttle a firm stomp would get me a slight hesitation before taking off. Not anymore!

just get long tubes with a catless y pipe or one with cats...then pay the extra $200 every 2 years for a cough cough smog...

u dont wanna get mids or shorties...cuz down the road u r gonna change to long tubes...trust me...i went through the process...so dont just think about a catted or non catted y...figure it out if u want long tubes then decide on a y pipe...

if i were u i would get long tubes with a catted y pipe...just in case a cop looks under ur car one day...at least u can say u have some cats...even though they are not in the stock position, but what cop really knows the difference? jsut do it for visual purposes, then get a cutout
