i was gonna say, first off just because the lgihts work doesnt mean the battery has enough juice to start the motor.

secondly, if the security system (factory) is activated you need to lock your car with the key fob and leave it locked for 30 mins, then unlock with the fob and try.

lastly, if youve got an aftermarket alarm its likely that.

these are all points that have been brought up, i just wanted to summarize.

At least check the battery before you tow it anywhere.

Vehicle Description: 2001 Pontiac Firebird Formula 5.7L

Mileage: 28660

Customer Concern:
Intermittent no start and no spark or injector pulse. No communication with the scanner or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Key On Engine Off (KOEO). Reference voltage to the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) and Crankshaft Position (CKP) intermittently drops to about 8.4 volts. Intermittently dropping voltage to 8.5 volts at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue connector, Pink wire, pin 19.

Tests/Procedures:
1. When the problem happens check B+ at the PCM IGN fuse in the lower underhood fuse block.

2. Check the fuse for a poor connection.

3. If dropping voltage at the fuse recheck at the ignition switch back probed at pin C.

Potential Causes:
Connection
Wire
Ignition switch

** Confirmed Fix **

1. Check for engine RPM in scan data while cranking.

2. Check for fuel injector pulse when cranking.

3. Check voltage level to the ignition coils, Pink wire, while cranking. Should be over 10v while cranking.

4. Replace the ignition relay in the underhood fuse block.

2000 Pontiac Firebird Formula 5.7L

Mileage: 55568

Customer Concern:
Intermittently, the engine will not crank over.

Tests/Procedures:
1. Check the resistance of the key pellet and document it.
2. Disconnect the key cylinder wiring at the base of the column and install an ohmmeter across the terminals on the steering column side of the connector.

3. Insert the key and check for the same resistance value as documented in the previous key test. If the resistance values do no match, there is a problem in the key cylinder or the wiring running through the steering column.

Potential Causes:
** Confirmed Fix **
Key cylinder and related wiring in the column.

Tech Tips:
It is important to rotate the key to crank when checking the resistance at the base of the column. The key cylinder wiring is easily identified by 2 small gauge wires often enclosed in an Orange sheath. The resistance value measured at the base of the column, when the key is installed into the key cylinder, should match the key pellet value.

Sounds like my truck. Still know idea what fixed it but after turning the key off and on a couple hundred time she started. Not to mention checking every wire connection from the battery to the dash to the starter. This has happened twice and I think it was a combo of ignition swithch, bad ground on battery, and connection at starter. Good luck.
