Default 241 heads for power

im thinking of buying a set of used 241 heads that i can get real cheap. what upgrades can i do to them for a little more bolt on power over my stock 241 heads. maybe a port and polish, valve job, milled, etc. maybe a valve upgrade? any options?

You could send them out to be P&P, milled, and have the valves worked...the whole nine. But if you are going to do that, you could probably just order some ready to bolt on P&P 5.3's or P&P LS6 heads.

Send them to patriot. They charge $600 to CNC your stockers, and will even toss on a Dual spring kit w/ Ti retainers for another $250.

if you decide to take your heads to a hand porter, make sure the person is credible, or you are just wasting your money...theres a lot you can do with stock casting heads to make good power....so dont let people fool you into needing an aftermarket casting...for an NA, or street boosted engine stock castings will work fine...

243's are one of the best stock castings for P&P'ing for power.

AFR's and Edelbrock heads are emissions legal

Most companies use stock cast heads to port anyways, so it's all pretty much dependant on the CNC program they are running for flow characteristics/limits if you are staying w/ the stock valve size.

And yes like Ryne said, as long as it passes the sniffer it doesn't matter what heads you have on it, most people will never know anyways.

a good ported set of 241's should be able to pull 300+cfm. It seems like a lot of people put a lot of emphasis on the casting number instead of how they flow. Plus if you want to sell a numbers matching car i would want to sell it bone stock anyways not modded out. You can always just put the stock castings back on there if you ever wanted to sell.

is it expensive/worth it to build up stock heads? The reason I ask is cuz no one seems to do it.

Strictly Performance does a damn good job with their ported stock casting heads 241's, 853s, 806s are all the same once ported...

I believe they flow 305-310 cfm on the intake. I can't recall the exhaust flow # off the top of my head.

there # is 818 342 5693 or 818 262 7409 if you wannna give them a call and price it out

i just had a set of 241's ported here in fresno the guy went as extreme as he could on them without getting the walls too thin raised the roof on the intakes the whole **** and they flowed 295 int. and 238 exh. tested without a pipe their not bad but much easier to see 300 cfm out of 243 heads its worth the extra 250 -300 dollars for usedd castings imo
