Should I trade my Vette for this truck???
#21
Well I was supossed to meet him today to take a look at each others cars, but Im stuck at work and the poll is pretty lopsided. I ill have to think about this some more. I did just talk to my buddy that has the same exact truck and uses it for his work truck. He says hell ya his has been real good to him?

To each his own. Im just basing my thoughts on experience.
I've owned one,my buddy owned 1,and several others I know. Couldn't keep transmissions in them or transfer cases.
They do tow very well but that just lights the wick for the all ready ticking time bomb transmission.
I sold mine after the third trans,my 2 buddys sold thiers after the 5th and 6th.
As I said though,to each his own,if u like it and trust it,get it.

If you're looking to tow, get the Hemi version. We've got the 6cyl and it's total tow capacity is only 3500lbs.

I found a couple V8s for a good deal. Not a hemi but the 5.2 V8 i dunno maybe that is the hemi? Im looking at a 98. Someone might by the Vette for cash today. Then I could buy the Jeep and still have some cash to throw into the WS6= Street twin Clutch to work with my motor and S60.

To the topic of the thread:
1. Dodge sucks
2. agreed, the cummins is the lesser of two evils if you can't be swayed away from dodge
3. Transmissions are expensive, and crappy fuel economy gets that way really fast.
My 5.3l Sierra can easily pull a 26' Fountain, but the 1500HDs have better brakes and a much better transmission. Another thing to consider is that the 6L chevy gets around eight in the city, which is sadly worse than the Dodge...

I'm going to disagree. I've got a '98 Dodge Ram 1500, lifted, 37" Swampers, front and rear lockers.... this thing has run the toughest trails in the state, including LOTS of trails I was told cannot be run in a full size trucks, and was one of 20 trucks from the country invited to compete in Four Wheeler Magazines Real Truck Challenge. Now it's my tow rig.
The tranny is considered a weak point. I've rebuilt mine ONCE. The truck currently has just a touch over 250,000 miles on it, and with all the body armor and such, weighs in at just over 8000lbs.
You can beef the transmission, just as you can with most anything. Mine is fine. It gets 12MPG empty, 12MPG towing my 4000lb Wrangler and probably 12MPG idling.

I wouldn't buy it I worked at a used car dealership while I was in college and 90% of dodge ram 1500 from the years 94 to 01 the trannys were trash we had a 01 come in with 36k on it truck looked good and when we checked it out tranny was bad.. I have a 02 silverado with 6" lift 20s on 35s and it been lifted for 2 years truck get 13mpg around town and 15mpg mixed with stock gears and trannys fine I would get a chevy but im also biased to chevy ill sell you mine for the right price

of course you going to run into good and bad but the chance of you getting a dodge with a really weak tranny between those years is much greater than you having trouble with any other manufacturer.. thats why dodge fixed there transmissions in the 03+ years because they knew they had a problem also not saying that all dodges had bad trannys im sure there are a few out there that have a 100k+ on them and still going
