Default 1994 Z28 40k miles

Looking at a 94 Z. Interior and exterior are immaculate. Carfax documents mileage..auto t-tops..very nice....only concern is engine bay shows rust on towers and lots of oxidation on motor....he wants $6k

Rust on the towers shouldn't be a big concern as longs it's not well into the metal. That can be cleaned up and repainted. Oxidation on motor pretty normal for a 20 yr vehicle that has spent some time outside. Have to wonder if some of that corrosion is from brake fluid or something else. $6K doesn't seen unreasonable for a very nice 40K miles - I assume one owner? Opti-spark ever replaced? Good tires - everything works - all fluids changed within OEM intervals? I would think the majority of 40K mile cars don't have this engine bay rust issue....so use it as negotiating issue. How is the undercarriage for rusting - esp. due to winter road salt? Getting one of these under $6K with that a low a mileage and nice exterior/interior is not easy. I can't find any '93-'97 with <50K miles under $6K on Autotrader.

Here's a very clean 52K mile 1994 in Houston, TX. Doesn't have the engine bay rust. $6900. There are a decent number of LT1's in the $6K to $8K <60K mile range.

I wouldn't hesitate to spend $6k on a really clean LT1 fbody with 50k or less miles. A lot of people will chime in and say that LS1 cars can be bought for that price, which is true, but they're usually in pretty rough shape and high mileage. Sure, there are exceptions to that, but they are not the norm.

Also, these cars are about 5-7 years from increasing in price again. People will be looking for clean and low mileage examples, and not ragged out cars with torn seats and cracked dash pads. So if it's something you're looking to keep for a while, this is another reason I wouldn't hesitate to buy a lower mileage car for a little bit more, even if it is an LT1.

The problem is, however, that low miles doesn't always mean the car is clean. I think this car is a perfect example of that. The rust on the strut towers is not that prevalent of an issue with these cars so when you see something a severe as what you posted, it's a likely sign of neglect of this car in some way. I'd pass on this for sure and keep hunting.
