Arrow 98 ws6

Hey guys. Found a 98 WS6 and wanted to see what other people would pay for it before I make my offer. Car is black but the clear coat is peeling pretty bad in a few spots, interior is clean but needs a new console lid, dash and door panels are cracked, and the bolster on the driver side seat is ripped. 107k miles, only mods are an CAI and a Flowmaster catback. A4 car. Taking any and all opinions, just don't want to have to pay to repaint this car. Thanks in advance!

Default Why?

I know everyone wants the 01-02 because they don't have the EGR and have the LS6 intake, but why doesn;t anyone want a 98? Not saying anyone is wrong but I'm curious as to why.

What does the time of year have anything to do with it? I know that it's about to be tax season, is that it? People want more money thinking people have it or something? I've noticed on KBB that the value of these cars are a lot lower than I thought they would be at this point, my 01 WS6 was worth almost 3k more 5 years ago than it would be today, which I thought would be the opposite.

Time of year plays a part for the people in snow regions. (I.E North East) When spring hits more people are looking for a "toy" and willing to spend a few more. I see your in Florida not really a big deal.

Absolutely nothing wrong with 98's.

98's don't have sail panel bubbling issues. 99-02 do.

98's do have a issue with the pcm bricking when tuned but I'm still using my 98 pcm and have had MANY tunes.

The later years are a bit easier to tune and are faster pcms but any tuner that can't tune any H/C/I setup using a 98 pcm I would not bring them a 99-02 either.

Thanks for the advice guys. Really appreciate the input. Have a few other options I may explore before pulling the trigger on this one though. Can’t get past having to paint it. I’ll let you all know what I wind up with.

I've had all the years except 2001. My '98 has been the best/my favorite overall. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, in fact I'd prefer it - especially to avoid the roof issue mentioned by 98CayenneT/A above (just make sure to get one built before 05/98 to avoid the risk.)

Here's some links to comprehensive info involving the differences between model years and such. All the various years have some positives and negatives over other years. Much of it is subjective, so it's false to assume that any given year is better or worse for every individual:

Thank you so much, I will deff. read through these. I found an 02 car, shocked at what it is for the price. If I make the deal i will certainly let you guys know and show you what I wind up with. The WS6 is nice and priced decently, like I stated above I just don't want to have to deal with painting it.

I have no problem with a 1998 model either but painting it is a huge 'turn-off' as the paint MUST be done right or it will look lousy. Good paint jobs are thousands of dollars as I'm sure you know. I would keep looking for another car. This one isn't exactly low mileage, and probably has more issues than you can imagine if it was allowed to get in it's current condition. You don't want a 'money pit'. Good luck!

Yes I agree. I miss my 01 badly. The guy texted me today to tell me he sold the car, and as tempting as that one was I just couldn’t get past the paint. When I have a car I make sure it is done right, so yes the paint would have costed me thousands. Have another car I’m looking at so I’ll keep you guys posted as to wether I get it or not.

Haha! My '02 car was actually built in 08/01, so it was a pretty early model (though production did start unusually early for 2002, I think in May or June, to accommodate the 35th LE SS and CETA release) and still had all the older engine bay caps like an '01 would have (washer fluid and brake reservoir caps changed mid-year for 2002s, and the oil fill cap changed at the very end.)

Does your 2001 have a low coolant level sensor? This was gone for 2002, but I don't recall if the '01s still had it or not. I believe the rear pinion seal was also updated mid year for the 2002s. There were some other minor optional equipment changes/standardizations for certain models I think, otherwise the biggest difference between '01 and '02 was just the availability of the LE and CETA packages.
