Default '01 SS Red M6

Hey guys, have been thinking of letting go of my '01 SS for a while, but never did it yet. It has 1 3/4" long-tube headers, off-road y-pipe, hooker catback, 18" Y2K Corvette rims, t-tops, had the typical GM paint clear coat issue, had the hood, spoiler and driver side of car re-painted, came out pretty nice. 2 or 3 years ago the A/C compressor failed, I swapped in an OEM compressor off of a 40k mile car, flushed and charged system, have seen it blow out 32* air. Not even a year ago, about 3k miles ago, new LS7 clutch assembly, flywheel, new hydraulics, remote bleeder-shifts like butter great street clutch setup, BMR torque arm with driveshaft loop, new driver's side window regulator and motor, 135k miles, dyno tuned, lid, undercoated when new, FL car, brought to OH, never seen salt, custom dyno tuned- 350 RWHP/370 RWTQ, upgraded speakers all the way around, aftermarket head unit and single amped 10" sub in trunk in custom box that doesn't take up any trunk well space, sounds mean, pulls hard.

Things it needs or I will do if I keep- the dashboard cracked at defrost and spiderwebbed, hopefully this pops out as an assembly and I can get one out of junkyard, the driver's seat is torn and needs to be replaced or recovered, needs 2 new tires, 2 replaced last year, new front O2 sensors and/or plugs replaced- I put NGK TR5 plugs in about 30k miles ago.

That's about all that I can think of off the top of my head. I don't think I'm ready to let it go just yet, would like to get it out for the year, drive it around and see, but main reason is I want to get a newer SUV.

Car looks pretty clean for the mileage. Unfortunately there are quite a few higher mileage 4th gen SS cars floating around the market at any given time. The predominant market seems to be between $8 to $10k everything above that seems to sit for a while. I would say that's the sweet spot if your looking to sell in any reasonable timeframe if not list it for what you want and move from there. I see under 100k mile SS cars at around $10k all the time just as a point of reference.

As a point of reference there is a 99 SS Hardtop on the first page with 110k miles and he is asking 8200

Thanks for the replies, I would be happy with $8k out of it if I decide to sell it.

Hello All, I bought a GT500 and it's finally time to let go of the SS. The car now has 146k miles on it. I have an offer of $5500 on it. That seems a little low to me. Is the market still $8k-$10k on something like my car as Bandits96SS suggested a couple years ago when I posted my thread originally?

Any input or opinions is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

Depending on what your interior looks like and if its still in good working order, I'd say $8k is definitely reasonable if its as clean as it looks in the picture. I certainly wouldn't accept less than $7,500 on it. $5,500 is way too low.

The interior is pretty decent. The driver's seat is torn and the dashboard cover is cracked, the passenger's window is slow going up. Other than those 3 things everything else is nice inside. The hood and spoiler are starting to peel and need addressed; I have a friend that said he would repair and paint both and buff the car for $400. The people who made the offer came up to $6250.

I think the few things wrong with the interior (which I missed earlier) and a couple paint issues combined with the relatively high mileage are what's killing it. All said and done, $6,250 may not be all that far off the mark. Usually the 8K+ cars I see are lower mileage and have fewer issues. It's a clean example for that age, but I picked my car a couple years back for about $5,500 in similar shape with 120k on the clock. Thing is, if you addressed some of those issues prior to the sale, you can probably get closer to that 8K Mark. $600 for seat covers, $500 for a dash and then if you can actually get the paint work done for $400 you can probably get pretty close.

Then again, that's a lot of work and money. At the end of the day the mileage is still kind of high. You might want to consider selling at $6,250.

Spamfritter, thanks for your input, opinion, and sharing what you paid for your car and it's condition. I agree with you that redoing the seat cover, dash, and paint is a lot of work, time, and money. I felt the $6250 was pretty close to what I want out of it in as is condition. I think I'm going to take his offer and just move on since I have quite a few things going on in life right now and don't have time to put in the car.

I think so also. There might be a chance I could get a few hundred more after doing the repairs but it's not worth the risk of not getting it and going through the hassle of fixing everything.

It's going to be kind of sad to see her go but I had a good run with it, it's going to stay local, the guy buying it is in his 50s so it's not going to get the **** beat out of it like if some kid got it, and it's going to stay local so I'm happy with everything but nothing is final until cash is in hand and the title is signed!
