I have only seen one car with a 24" front and it looked horrible. The main reason people go with 15x3.5 rims with a 26" tire is because there is a **** ton less rolling mass. Each static pound you take off the front of your car, is like taking three pounds off when converted to rolling weight. 15x3.5s are ALOT lighter than stock 16x8s or even aftermarket wheels, thus causing the car do go faster. My stock motor mustang went from 13.91 to 13.79 in the same day just from swapping from 17x9 cobra R's to 15x3.5 Welds.

$160 each for S/R radials. You can get 2 165/80r15's for $80

And risk your life everytime you make a pass.

Im good on the extra few bucks with my life in the tires hands. It doesn't sit safe with me knowing Im going 140 mph on tires designed for a VW's top speed of 79mph and max weight of 1900lbs.

165's are VW not 165/80's. There is a difference. My car only sees 118mph on the track and see's 140 all the time on the street and still good. Not to mention it feels 100% more stable at higher speeds then my sportsman's did. No more floating around and it can actually go around a corner

Factory 275.40's are at 1,600lbs and 165/80's are 1300lbs with me being 100lbs lighter in front and about to be another 40lbs lighter with hood i think im safe. Its the speed rating i have to be worried about i just to hold it at high speeds for long periods of time. I do 1-2-3-4-then slow down

If i had a 9 sec car or faster i would get some S/R but not for my DD I know that they are the beter way to go but i have seen to many cars running 165/80's and no problems and they are all 10 sec cars pulling wheels

if you bracket race, there can be a difference.
the difference in tire height changes your rollout on the starting line. thus increasing or decreasing your reaction time.
i run a 28" all others are too small, IMO.

all the better to have a REAL tire on a car you daily drive.
and depending on the manufacturer, there is a difference in weight and speed load between a 165R metric and a 165/80, but not much.
sportsman fronts do drive a lil weird, but they are safer in the long haul, IMO.

I apologize, my dimensions were wrong in my previous post. The 165R15 is 25.4" in OD.

The sportsmans are a bias tire. Not a radial. If you mix the two hell yea your car is going to drive all messed up. even if you did bias on both ends it will, newer cars suspension isnt made for a bias ply. MT does make a radial and so does Hoosier. And the guy from Discount tire you should know this. Also what are the specs on the 165/80 tire? For the guys who do lighten thier car, running a tire like that may not be that bad. but for my heavy car I need a better tire.

I'm running ET Fronts (26x4.5-15) and they are quite nice. I air them up to 30-32 psi and they are great, even on the freeway going to the track. Plus the tread looks pretty sweet on it since I don't really dig the Sportsman tread.

you seriously drive on these tires?
the compound and thickness of the rubber is not designed for any type of heat.
my god.

To the track and back, yes I sure do. I can't believe you're giving me more **** than those people driving on those metric tires. I cringe every time I hear about someone running those.

Agreed. How can you complain about ET FRONTS but not VW tires haha?

I daily drove my car last year on my M/T ET FRONTS with no problems at all. At least once a weekend I made a hour drive on the eway with them also, to go camping.

put some 165/80 radials on it and see how much beter it handles
Its night and day difference. No more squeaking going around corners slow no more have to slow down for cornera as much. Like i said i started with sports-mans up front and went to these and waaaayyyyyy beter handling tire for a dd

I ran 165r15s up front and to be honest its really not much diff. I run no front sway bar also, but have piece of mind not having my tires blow out at 120mph. I've seen to many fail lately as I said earlier
