Default Repairing Drag Radials

I have a set of Nittos and I got a nail or a screw in one of them a while back...car is in storage now. Got it repaired at Discount Tire...I think they used like a combination of a patch and a plug. Everything seemed fine after they were repaired...they had the air fine. The tires have MAYBE a total of 1000 miles on them now with no burnouts on them. Would it still be alright to use them at the track? Just wondering if anyone has done this with Nittos (or any other drag radial) and seen how they held up. I really don't want to buy a brand new tire again when I just got these a little while ago. Thanks for the help.

That sucks, I don't know if a plug and patch would survive a big smokey burnout.

I have wondered this myself though.

As far as regular street driving I would assume it be ok.

ive been in the aftermarket wheel and tire business for a few years. internal combi units are the only right way to repair a tire, youll be fine

i got a flat at island raceway (slow leak actually) in a nitto 555r, drove to a shop who threw a plug in it, and went right back and raced. held fine.

i've put numerous plugs in drag radials, they all held fine. maybe make sure you drive it a couple miles before doing a burnout to make sure it seals properly

As long as they were properly repaired you should have no problems...I patched mine as well

Ditto on my Nittos. Had several plugs in them and they went to the track a number of times.

I wouldn't hesitate one bit. I used to work in a tire shop, so when my Nitto picked up a nail the week after I bought them I used a patch/plug and fixed it perfectly. I've done several burnouts and quarter mile passes without a single leak.

I even did it on a motorcycle tire once so I could run it at the strip. I used a small patch/plug to plug a tiny nail right in the center of the tire. If it was anywhere else, I wouldn't chance it. If your nail is anywhere near the center you'll be fine, just don't try anything near the sidewall. The patch will flex and rip off after a little time.

I had a nail in my last set of Nittos. It was on the outer tread block. I had it plug/patched and took the car to VERY high speeds numerous times, never had an issue.
