Why do people throw such a bitch-fit about this subject?

Sure they fit... and fit fine based on the pics.

315mm = 12.4"

How is this any worse than running a 325 drag radial (which i have) on a 10" rim

325mm = 12.8"

Regardless of what NITTO claims or advertises their tires to measure, or what they recommend, their tires are a LOT smaller in width than damn near any tire out there. I found that out when I put Nitto 275/40/17 drag radials on stock 17x9 SS rims...I also found this out when using a 315/35 Nitto on a 17x11 rim.

It looked stupid because the rims were actually wider than the tire's tread.

yea i would say this can only be done with nittos...cause they are way more narrow than advertised...

there is a 30th t/a at angels the frickan rican's shop in S.A. with 315's on a stock 17x9.5 blue 30th wheels

Im not arguing with you.

I think anyone who says it wont work is either repeating what a shop that is trying to cover their *** told them, or is just repeating what they read in another post. No one that has actually done it has had any problems.

I agree with ya just based on the pics that were posted of the nitto 315's on the 9.5" wheels. I have BFG 255's on my stock salad shooters and they look exactly the same size as those nittos

No, I didn't think that at all. I thought we are on the same page.
As any pics of 315 Nittos on 9 or 9.5" rims show...they fit fine and always have, always will.

Any other 315, which measures closer to their claim, is too wide and probably is unsafe as claimed.

the key thing here is not whether you can fit a 315 on a 9.5" rim, you can and we all know it. The important thing is to realize it isn't the safest thing to do, you are simply increasing the risk of tire failure for the sake of saying you have 315's. Stick with what's safe

Your risk is no greater than with any other tire.

After the skinny 275/40 Nitto drag radials were removed from my stock 17x9's, I swapped to M/T ET Drag radials in the same 275/40/17 size. They fit exactly like those Nitto 315's fit on the 17x9" rim pictured above, meaning, they bulged out slightly. A BFG or MT drag radial is a LOT wider in ACTUAL MEASURED SIZE (not "claimed" width) than a Nitto of the same size. Everyone who's had both, or all, knows this. Anyone who's had both, or all 3, would surely agree that a MT or BFG is indeed too wide for a 9" rim....but not a Nitto.

Does anyone have a link to a thread where a 315 Nitto on a 17x9 or 9.5" wheel "failed, blew out, peeled off the rim, or otherwise"?

This is a text book example of someone who has no real knowledge to contribute... but feels like they are educated on the subject because they "read it somewhere"

No sir... This is an example of someone who reads the stickies at the top of each forum, made by the moderators... This is a quote of the sticky:

This will not be discussed. I will not tolerate that kind of post. If I see if posted it will be deleted no questions asked.

Read the tire manufacturers recommendations.

If you are foolish enough to try it fine . . .

If you find a tire shop ignorant enough to install them fine . . .

But encouraging others to recklessly experiment, NO. Do not PM me in regards to this, I will not reply. If you don't like my stance then complain to Brains or Nineball.

Sincerely,

The Tire ****

Read the part in BOLD...

So let me ask you this question then.

Have YOU or anyone you know locally ever tried it. Because if no then you really have no first hand knowledge... and everything you say is second hand information.

No... im seeing someone who has owned an Fbody for two months, with the only mods being a lid and cutout... sit here and try to tell people with first hand experience that they are wrong.

If you can tell me that fitting a 315 on a 9.5" wheel is an issue that pertains to Fbody's only, then I'll shutup... I've been building a couple of vehicles for 10 years... The fact is, every vehicle has wheels and tires; I don't see how owning my f-body for only 2 months, and only having a couple of mods, is a valid argument... My 72 is more custom than anything you'll ever build.

The Trans Am is a toy that I bought, because I've always wanted one...

Have you ever seen a tire come off a rim as a result of being to wide? Not pretty.

LOL! They fit better than any Drag combo out there as far a How much they bulge! Just search Drag set ups or Prostar etc. Drag combos must be totally unsafe then!
Ive owned 96+ F-bodies for the last 13 yrs and have never heard of a nitto 315 failure on a stock 17" rim. Neither has the 17X9 03-04 Cobra guys.
All other brands run much much wider than the Nittos in the same size.
If you do buy them according to Nitto your rear tires will look SMALLER than the front.
Again Im not telling you this is ok, Just telling you my experience about them.
