9 bolt
I don't think I would go thru a bunch of work swapping for a 9 bolt, the small strength gain wouldn't worth all the effort not to mention finding a matching set of wheels with the correct offset for the 4th gen front and 3rd gen rear.
3rd gens had different offsets in front to rear. they werent compatable, other then being able to put fronts on the rears, but not rears on the fronts. i dont know the numbers offhand, but the rears i think are more of a deep dish style, when compared to the front.

the only older rear end that could be an upgrade is an old school 12 bolt.

Yeah, that Aussie 9 bolt came as a 3.27, and you could only swap in a 3.70 gearset.
I think 3rd Gen wheels have close to zero offset, give or take 1/2", depending on FR or RR and 15x7 or 16x8. The rearends are about 2 inches narrower, but aren't the bodies/fenders also slightly?
