weld or summit? help!
i got my tax money back with my FHA loot too.
i want to get draglites, but the summit sports are half the price. anyone have any experience with these? ive searched every thread for the last week. and guys buy the summit stars, but i havent seen much feedback from the summit sports. weight isnt that much of a big deal to me but..to those who know, people will know you have the cheapies by the lug pattern. im already lookin at $750 just for tires ( 275/50/15 MT DR, and 26.6/15 MT S/R sr).
the welds come in a 2.25 BS but the summits are only 1.75 for the 15x4 fronts, what should i do here?
im gonna go 15x8 5.5BS for the rear no problems here.
ive been pulling my hair out trying to decide what to do. does any one have pics of 2.25BS fronts vs 1.75BS showing how much they stick out?

I just picked up a pair of used Draglites for $200 (probably coulda talked him down to $180, oh well). Apparently they weigh a few pounds less than the Summit wheels. Plus they're forged in the USA.

They will work with the typical grinding to the calipers, the front back spacing should give you no issues, the Welds are a little lighter, and they are forged rather then cast, but they will look good, and serve there purpose. So basically, as long as you are willing to give up a few pounds to go to the Summit or Jegs brand, then you will be fine.

I was told the summit & jegs "Draglite" style wheels wont fit, that's why you don't see anyone running them. I'd just get a set of Weld Draglites. The fronts will fit with minor grinding, and the 15x8 rears won't need that much grinding. They are a lot lighter. Remeber, for every 1 static pound of roating mass (rim weight) you take off, is like taking 3lbs off the car.

I know a coupla guys with the Summit Stars, so obviously they fit. They do look good, too. I would just be concerned about not getting all of the possible weight savings. Plus there's the whole thing with having a well-respected name brand. I know that sounds silly to a lot of people but hey, sometines you have to pay for quality.
And like I said, you can find used Welds in good shape for about the same price as new Summit wheels. As long as they're not beaten up, used wheels are just as good as new ones.

Ive made many passes on my summit stars, and the weight issue is obviously no big deal considering i was hittin high 1.4 60s yankin the tires with a 360rwhp full weight car. The front may take some grinding depending on the life on your brakes, the rears take about 10 mins of grinding on each side.

So you had Summit wheels, and then went to Welds with a gain of .20, i find that hard to believe. yeah, if you can get a set of used Welds in decent shape for the same price as Summit or Jegs wheels, then i would go that route, but i would not hesitate to run the Summit or Jegs wheels if i could not find a deal. The statement is in the look and how the car performs, not the name of the wheel.

Besides Camaro396, from the look of the pic of what i assume is your camaro, it looks like Greg Welds on the front which are cast just like the Jegs and Summit wheels, so they are pretty much the same, only WELD are the Forged wheels, and are the lighter ones.

Not to put words in Camaro396's mouth, but he may be talking about going from a stock-type wheel and tire combo to a Weld combo. I've been told that removing 50 lbs from your wheels and tires would be like removing about 200 lbs of static weight from the car (4:1 ratio), making a 2 tenths ET drop seem pretty reasonable. Then again someone just told me today that a drop in rotational weight has the same effect as the same drop in static weight (1:1 ratio), so I dunno. Most people seem to say that rotational weight is much more important.

I have read on here that the weight difference between a Summit front and a Weld front is only a few pounds, 10 lbs for a 15 X 3.5 Weld Draglite vs 13-14 lbs for a 15 X 4 Summit Star IIRC. Some guy on here weighed his Summits and made a thread about it. I also remember that his 15 X 8 Summit rears weighed almost as much as my stock 16 X 8 "snowflakes."

Here's that thread I mentioned previously.

My Greg Welds were 9.9lbs. I've never weighed a Summit Star, but I've felt them, and sold quite a few of them. They are quite a bit heavier, and don't look as good IMO. There is not a HUGE weight difference, but if you can swing it, I'd go with a set of Weld's over Summits.

The Greg Welds do look good, and i am amazed they are that light, but i have not weighed them so i stand corrected. If you have the money, Weld is the way to go, but if you are balling on a budget, Jegs and Summit wheels are a bargain, and serve there purpose as well. Like i said, it is all in what you want and can afford.
