Default Question about tire sizes...

Hey guys, got a couple questions for ya, I have a 2001 SS, and I'm looking at buying new tires right away, so I was immediately looking at the BFG G-Force T/A KD, but then I realizes that they only make that tire in a 275/40/17, I know thats the stock sizes for all the tires, but I want to know how much the steering is affected when you put on a smaller tire, up front that is.. I want to put some 265/40/17 up front, and a 285/40/17 Nitto tire in the back, if they make that size that is (I think they do?)
So I was wondering if anyone who has this combo, how does the car feel? react? better handling? braking? Thanks guys I appreciate it.

The ABS system in F-Bodies is not designed to account for different tire heights on the front then on the back.
You're best off to use the same height tire an all 4 corners.
275/40-17 or 285/40-17 on all 4 corners would work fine.

Tire Hieght? The tire hieght on the tires are the same, it's the width that is different. All the tires will be /40 series... so the sidewall is the same hieght.... I just want wider tires in the back, and smaller tires in the front...... But I couldn't find any "good" makers of tires for the 285/40/17.... so I'm going to go with a 275/40/17 in the back instead (stock size)

275/40/17 (Back)
265/40/17 (Front)

Now can I do this in the front?

I've looked at a couple brands already, and have read a couple of reviews... for the front I'm looking at Bridgestone Potenza S-03 w/ UNI-AQ2, and for the back NT-555R Extreme Drags...

So tell me guys if this can be done, and if any of you have this combination or even these tires I would appreciate it if you tell me how you like them, etc.

Thanks boys

'fraid not. That 40 means the sidewalls are 40% of the width of the tire. The wider the tire, the more sideall you get.

y do u wanna do it? i had 265/40's/285/40's on mine because i lowered the front 1.5" and i wanted the 'raked' look... never had an abs prob, but mine was a '94, with the old style brakes... if u want same height but narrower up front, get some 245/45's...

i wouldn't go any smaller on a 9 inch rim than a 275. otherwise you'll have the gay *** ricer look. why not stay with the KD's all the way around? they will handle bad ***. if your looking for the "wider" look in the back then just go 315 drags in the front and any 275 tire in the front. but your NOT going to get that look by going a 10 mm smaller in the front. in order to really get it your going to have to get say 17X11 zr1's in the back and 17X9's in the front

Default Are you crazy with smaller?

Why are you going with a smaller tire up front, only pro-drags have that. I have Kumho Ecsta MX 285/40/17 all around. It is awesome on launching and corning. See Yaaaaa
