Default My Toyo Proxes TQ review

Well I had my new tires put on today. The first part of the day was dry, and later on it started raining which allows me to write a decently rounded review for only having them on one day.

Just for reference, my car makes 404rwhp, so this review may be found helpful by the cam only guys. The tire size is 315/35/17.

The first thing I noticed is that the tire runs a little bit wide for a 315. Not that it matters, but it was just something I noticed. The tread is very deep which should be good for wet driving

On dry pavement the tires hooked very well. My car is an m6 car, and I was leaving stoplights at around 3500rpm. I rode the clutch a little bit, but the tires did very well from a stop. I was power shifting into second gear, and the tires barely chirped. This tire hooks very well on the street. I for see a lot of broken 10 bolts in the future. It didn't matter if I was on black top, or freshly paved cement, they just HOOKED.

On wet pavement they did very well. They inspired a lot of confidence. From a stop light I would accelerate just like I normally would if it was dry with no issues. I gave it 3/4 throttle in 2nd gear around 35mph, and they would spin, but not as much as you would think a drag radial would.

The ride was fine. It wasn't any different then riding around on a normal street radial. They were not horribly noisy either.

I obviously have no idea how bad the wear is on these tires since I have only had them for a day. I will bump this thread after a couple of months. I don't expect them to last long. If they only last 7k miles I will be happy, because they are cheap anyways.

All in all this is a great tire so far. I think I will be buying another pair in the future. I would definitely recommend this tire. I think these will give as much traction as you could without stepping it up to a M/T. I couldn't be happier so far.

Will do. I will bump this thread as different experiences occur. There just isn't a whole lot of information about this tire, and I figure my experiences may help other people out... plus its good for my post count

One thing that is irritating me is that everyone keeps telling me one of my tires is on backwards. The tire is directional, but they only make one direction for the tire.

Look closely at this picture and you will see what I am talking about. http://http://www.toyoeditor.com/ima..._Nova_Rr_c.jpg
The drivers side tire looks like its on backwards, but it isn't.

That is weird about the looking backwards thing. You'd think that would make one tire not work as well as the other...

Yeah, I'd heard they have an inside and outside facing edge, not necessarily directional...

Thanks man, look forward to hearing more.

NO drag radial will do good in a downpour there is just not enough tread, but neither will any 315 period they are just too wide.

And OP everything you said about the tires I feel the exact same way. they are excellent tires especially for the money. And yeah they hook amazingly well on wet streets as a bonus, not standing water but wet ( not that you said any different just saying ).

I hope you get more than the 7k I did, most people get more out of their tires than me, I cant control my right foot so I go through tires really fast. But I also went to the track several times, did a couple John Force burnouts for no good reason and played alot on them... Im sure there are people that can get a good 15 or so if they just drive normal. Hell my sumitomos lasted less than 10k too if i remember right. This is the first big power rear wheel drive car I have owned and the joy of getting it sideways etc has still not worn off so dont use me as a reference for tire mileage lol.

You wont regret it. I strongly believe these are a step up from the Nitto DR's in dry and wet traction. The only thing I am unsure about is wear, but these are drag radials and they aren't expected to last long.

I think that these are the best DD drag radial. The more I drive, the more I enjoy them. Anyone that is iffy about these tires, just buy them and you will not regret it!

00PooterSS,

I read some of the things you had said about these tires prior to buying them. I think we are pretty much on the same page. Thanks for your input.

i will probly try a set of these when my 555r's wear out.
i have ad a good experiance with my nittos on a good preped track i can got almost wot from the line with out spining they are geting stickyer the more they wear down but i have about 5k on them and the centers arent worn and they are still in great shape.
i might just get a spare set of wheels and the toyos or m/t's for track only and just run a standard street tire the rest of the time.

If you are going to get a track only tire I would go ahead and pass on the Toyos. I haven't taken my car to the track and don't plan to with the 10 Bolt, but I would guarantee the M/T are going to out hook the Toyos.

The Toyo are a great tire for street/strip because of how well they do in the rain, and I would also imagine they wear slower than the M/Ts. But the M/T is the best drag radial to get those 60's down, but don't have good DD characteristics.

I have some at home I have been meaning to post up but I keep forgetting. They look good though.

I look forward to reading what you think. I am very interested to see how they do on a powerful car like yours. Do you plan on taking it out to the track with these tires? I really want to see how they 60.

One of them is mounted "backwards" or inside out actually .. they have an inside and outside edge as stated above, you should get it turned the right way, and fire your tire guy.

They are doing fine. They haven't really worn at all, but I haven't had them long.

I did get stuck in some pretty nasty rain with standing water. It wasn't exactly fun, and didn't inspire a lot of confidence. I was on black top, and the tires would break loose pretty easily. They got me home, but it took a little longer doing 30mph in a 55.

I can't say I didn't expect that. In fact, I wouldn't expect much better from any 315 tire on a rwd 400+hp car.

I still feel that these are great tires, and would recommend them to anyone with a modded car.

Sorry I hadn't updated earlier, but not a lot of people showed much interest in this thread.

Not exactly understanding what you are saying here. There is only one correct way to mount these tires, and it always ends up leaving the drivers side tread going in the wrong direction.

Im in for updates, sumis are almost shot and will be going with a drag radial for next season. Considering these, sounds like they would dead hook on a bolt on car lol.
