Default Help me with wheels+rims for $1200ish

Hi all, I'm a noob when it comes to tires and rim sizing. I'm looking to replace the ws6 rims on my 01 trans am. I bought the car recently and the current size tires on the front and rear are 235's and are absolutely awful for traction let alone they are getting rather low on tred. I like the z06 replica's, but not sure what tires to get. I want something that is going to stick well, launch great, and be decent in rainy weather. This is going to be my weekend street car and drive a 335xi for my DD. I don't want to go so far as to alter the fenders to fit really wide tires, but I am looking to push 500rwhp+ down the road. I'm currently stock with AHR headers, Magnaflow cat back, and lid waiting to be installed.

What would you guys get with what I've mentioned above? Pro's and Con's would be great. I've been leaning toward some Nitto's or Yokohama's, but not sure what sizes to get with what rims. Rims I'm thinking an 18".

17s will be cheaper all around. 18s are nice but not really that necessary on a 93-02 as they look just fine with 17s.

As far as tires, for a nice performance tire that isn't a drag radial or autocross Nitto, run a set of 275/40ZR17 Goodyear GS-D3s. They embarrass Nitto and Yokohama for all around performance.

Thanks guys for the ideas. How well do the 315's fit in the rear and what type of front tires would be recommended? Also, anyone know a good place for z06 or zr1 rims?

I have a set of black c5 z06's for sale... they are in good shape but need tires. I'll take 550 for them if your interested... that still leaves you plenty of wiggle room for new tires to put on them.

I'd take them, but black rims aren't my cup of tea. Although my T/A is white and they probably would look good.

IMO,
TTM's 17 x 9 front(275/40/17), 17 x 10.5 rear(315/35/17).
The TTM's will give you the most trouble free fitment for 315's in the rear.

I do like the rims. There are a couple different backspaces, which would be best? Any suggestions on tires to go with it? NT-555's?
For Rears: 5 x 4.75 in. Bolt Circle, 7.5 in. Backspace
For Fronts: 5 x 4.75 in. Bolt Circle, 6.75 in. Backspace

^my mistake, meant tires and rims which I cleared up in the body of my initial post, but you must be too busy to contribute as you have more trolling to do. Also, I'm willing to spend around $1200 give or take $200

You can easily do it for around that price. All together, I've got $1400 in my wheel/tire combo. My wheels were $600 (all 18x10.5"), front tires were $200 shipped (brand new 275/35/18 Cooper Zeon 2XS's), And rears were $545 shipped (brand new 335/30/18 Nitto NT555R DR's). I could've saved a lot by not going so outrageous on the rear tires. Also, Tirerack may still have their deal on 295/35/18 Goodyear GS-D3's for $163/tire, if you really want 18's.

Those you listed above are what you want.

Any of these tire would be a good choice for the street!

Front Street tires:
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval - $156
Nitto NT 555 - $146
Falken FK 452 - $131
General Exclaim UHP - $121
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport - $155

For rear Street tires:
Nitto NT 555 - $196
Kumho Ecsta XS - $210

Here is what I have so far in my cart. I think I'm going the NT-555R route with the TTMs rims. I just want to make sure my sizes sound right or if there any suggestions for change. I have 315/35-17's for the rear and 315/40-17's in the front. not sure if the fronts need to be 35's like the rear or not. Anything else I should add to the cart or change? BTW, if anyone knows a sponsor on this site that has a decent deal on these setups, let me know. I'd rather support a sight sponsor.
