I'm a tire *****....
315/35R17 Nitto NT555R's = Broke two rear axles on the street but didn't hook very well on the track.
325/45R17 M&H = Hooked amazingly on the track and street. Didn't like how they were actually narrower than my 275/40's on the same rim.
26x11.50R17 ET Street = Hooked on everything but didn't feel stable on the highway going 70+
275/40R17 Toyo TQ = Haven't been to the track but on the street so far they are decent. Feel stable but haven't really pushed them too hard.

DD'd with bolt ons for a couple years.. H/C for a short time. I've been running my AR wheels @ 10.5 rear, 10" front with GS-D3's for four years. AWESOME tires when they are new, but they get dried out after three years. Apparently they are a three year tire, so use em up before that time frame. My fronts are hardly worn at all.
Great tires for the rain, but didn't hold my H/C setup too well on 35 sidewall once they dried out. Spins real easy.

i daily drive a 400 rwhp hugger Z28. i've run BFG DRs on a salad shooter rim with almost no spin on the street. ran a 2.0 60' on mickey thompson et street cheater slicks at OSW. ran a set of 555R's and spun at the track and on the street. but they lasted the longest of any of the tires i've used. looking into mickey thompson ET street radial II's or regulars. i'm leaning toward the 295 45 17 ET II's for my next tire. but that's 440 bucks in ruubber and i'm kindof a cheapass so, honestly, since tire rack sells BFG's for 175 a tire, i haven't made up my mind.
