Sears has a hard set rule of 1 inch from he side wall before scrapping a tire. That is the rule I have always gone by and from what I can see I would say it is fixable. Just dont use a plug in itself cause they dont hold 70% of the time in all the tires I have had to fix. I dont know how many times I have had to dig out a leaky one after the customer brought his tire in for a second repair. Plug patch as a few posts back up is what I have always used, they are a cross between a patch and have a stem that goes through the tire. Make sure they reem it slightly to get the bad cod from the puncture sight, and just slight scruff the inside where the patch goes to get good rubber adhesion, and clean off the sight also of debrie from scuffing with your die grinder (keyword is slight and light scuffing if you do use a die grinder with a fiber pad). We usually had a chemical to also help to clean after scuffing and it also gets maybe any oil from the spot or if you had fix a flat. Dont get me started on my opinion of fix a flat. I realize you have already fixed the tire, but someone reading might find usefull since it isnt common knowledge about fixing tires.

almost all shops have a rule like that but it is only for liability purposes... if they patch a tire near the edge of the sidewall and a week later it starts leaking the customer is going to want it fixed again or a new tire so it could end up costing the company in the long run... but on my own personal car and friends cars i would do it as long as it's not right on the edge... and yes fix-a-flat blows and if you have tire pressure monitor sensors it can destroy them and then you're out even more money

You'll be fine with the plug-patch. I had a nail in the outer tread block of a Nitto drag radial several yrs ago and hated to junk it so I did the plug-patch. It saw thousands of miles, countless burnouts, and blasts to 120+ mph and I never had a single issue and I ran em til you couldn't tell the tread pattern anymore lol.

I just had a similar situation. What are the disadvantages of patching?

I had road hazard on my tires, so they patched it for free. I don't want any problems with it though...
