My wheels looked the same after sitting in a closed down chrome shop for a year. None of the standard polishes are aggressive enough. The standard blingmaster is amazing on most metal, but didn't work on my wheels. I just got a buffing wheel with some different types of rouge from HD, I'll keep you posted on what works.

Get this...
I stopped into O'Rielly's to look for something soft but somewhat aggressive to rub the polish in with.

Since I was the only customer and there were like 4 guys standing around, they were all about helping. Pointed me to Meguiars hot wheels aluminum cleaner. **** worked...
Of course, they still need a polish, but that isn't a big deal.

They are cleaned up fairly nice. Although I still want to get something into the little crease where the two pieces meet up on the wheels.

try some kind of real polish like mother's mag or blingmaster, start with some fine scotchbrite (gray color) then go back over them with a terry cloth or power ball

Actually... A real polish is some good compound and a wheel, like rouge. If you want a quality finish quick you'll try a compound bar and polishing wheel.

Mothers and blingmaster is good stuff but thats a finishing compound. You can make aluminum like glass with that stuff, but a good compound and buffing wheel will get you way farther.

Happy St. Patty's day beechezzzz.

arent there places the "professionally" polish rims? if so anyone know about how much they charge? I'm in a pretty weird situation right now, i wrecked my car and got new TT2's on the passenger side of my car, and i need to get the driver side rims to look just as good. thinking about wetsanding them. any input? Id hate to have to buy 2 new drivers side rims just so all my rims match.

wetsand...start off with 600-1000 depending on how nasty they are, then finish with 1200-1500 and polish with something good...I use blingmaster. Better to start out with a finer grit and see if it works for you...then get more aggressive if you have to. Or you can use scotchbrite as mentioned above.

scothbrite works very well, if they are really really rough (1 of my wheels had been leaning against a barn face up for who knows how long...most likely years) start with rough ( I used red) then go to gray then again with a terry cloth

I just got my blingmasters and it seems to be about the same as the Green Magic brand stuff I got at a flea market in dallas years ago...watery and containing petroleum distillates...works very very well with just a few drops. Just sucks the blingmaster is $20 + shipping for a 8 oz bottle verus $10 for a 16oz bottle of the Green Magic...but I can't find it anymore.
