Default In need of some polishing advice....

I have aluminum TTII's.

They sat out over the winter on the car...and look like total ****.
Well, I washed them off today and used a little Nevr Dull to start attempting to clean them up....and while it started to work, it wasn't getting all of the little spots (like water spots kinda) off.

What other options are there?? I normally polish with a mini-powerball and Mother's Billet. Not thinking that is gonna do me much good.

Anyone used the dremel polishing bits before? Any luck?
TIA!

I dealt with the same problems on my TTII's. After exhausting all of my options I just wet sanded them down and started with a fresh surface. You could also try some of that Noxon metal polish. It seems to be a bit stronger than some of the wheel oriented polishes.

I know this sounds crazy but try 'Mr Clean Magic Erasers' on your aluminum wheels with a little bit of water. You will be suprised.

This is probably my cheapest option right now....pretty sure I can snag one from work.

I need to know the best answer here as well, I detail a truck with aluminum rims no matter what I do/use aside from physically sanding the wheels (the owner DOES not want me to do that), nothing has worked well for me.

Why is the owner against wetsanding? You could wetsand it and hit with polish and it would look even better than fresh off the line in most cases?

You guys should try getting some jewelers rouge compound and a buff wheel from a truck stop or big rig chrome shop. I've polished some BAD tractor truck wheels and this stuff always pulls through. Use a dual action sander or drill depending on the buff wheel, and its much more aggressive than polish. Just a light touch will do wonders.

Gave this a try tonight.
Didn't even start to make a difference.

Now I can at least clean the bathroom up....

+1 for the bling master. That is some great stuff. Haven't tried them on some really "rough" wheels but it has done an excellent job on the wheels and exhaust tips we have used it on.

Never dull sucks ***...all it does is smear a filmy residue

try some kind of real polish like mother's mag or blingmaster, start with some fine scotchbrite (gray color) then go back over them with a terry cloth or power ball

prepare to use some elbow grease...nothing just wipes on and wipes off to make aluminum look good, hence why never dull blows

Put a little money in up front and try the Bling Master...I've owned my polished CCWs for years, and no other polish has been as easy to use. You'll thank yourself later.

I have both the Mother's Mag and the Mother's Billet.
Just not wanting to kill off that Billet on the nasty sections of the wheels....since the **** is freaking expensive.
Although, I guess if it works.... lol

Mr lous why would you leave them out all winter?? i remember you from j-body.org and have read tons of your postes here. and i would never think that you would do such a thing but **** happens. when i had my TT's i would use Eagle one aluminum wash and cleaner then follow up with meguiars "hot rims" MAG and aluminum polish. and tons of elbow grease. i would also take them to the bathtub to clean and put them on the table to polish. once a year i would do this. ususally when my car was parked for the winter and the wheels were NOT on the car but it got all the little water spots off and such. just took awhile. and my arm was sore for a week.
have fun.
Mike

'**** happens' pretty much sums it up.
Car currently doesn't have a garage....just the situation right now. Hoping by next winter I have it taken care of.

And yeah Matt...I have already been in touch with Goose.

a little bit of that polish goes a long way

on that note avoid cheaping out and getting the eagle 1 nano polish that comes in a container like the mother's...that **** is worthless...might as well just use car wax to try to polish the wheels

I tend to stay away from that kind of stuff overall. Most of the products I use on my paint aren't available at Auto Parts stores. Not top of the line, but decent stuff.

I will see if I have some time to put some elbow grease in with the Mag and Alum. polish.

My buddy's TTII's were pretty scummy when I did an eight our detail/wax on his car last year. Took me an hour a wheel to clean his up. Two runs of never dull, then cleaner, then two runs of aluminum polish with a powerball and they were finally looking good again.
