HANDLING!!!
I am about to get new tires for the front end and I am planing on going with Kumhos. I have Goodyear F1 SuperCars on the car now (265/40ZR17 front and 295/35ZR18 rear).
The plan is to use 275/40YR17 Kumho Ecsta Supra MXs on the front and then put 295/35YR18 Kumho Ecsta Supra MXs on the rear.
The question is am I going to put these new tires on, go down the street, and at the first turn go "WTF DID I DO?!?!?!?.......the SuperCars were better than this......" ?
My friends keep saying "oh yeah....Kumhos work really good...." but then again they don't road race. Please help!

I guess I should mention that the reason I am not using the SuperCars is:
A) they are $$$ for daily driving/minor screwing around and if I can get close to the same performance for less money I will be much happier
B) the fronts have been on national backorder for over a year (had to wait almost 2 weeks to get one last time) so I want to move to something that is more accessible

I have the mx's, but for the 17'' wheel. Great tire, I am also happy with them. Yup, for the price, you can't beat them. They have even been pretty good in the rain.

Goodyear F1 Supercars are superior tires. Period.
I don't know how you drive. You may not push the Goodyears anywhere near their limit. If you do not then the Kumho should be "near" the same performance to you. If you are maxing these Goodyear tires out you'll probably not care for the Kumhos at all.
Kumho tires are often used in roadracing on the grassroots level. People use them because they are cheap and work OK.
The Kumhos will be fine for most people as long as you do not expect them to handle and grip as well as the Goodyears.
Remember: Without question The MOST important performance part on your vehicle is your tires. You can have 600hp and/or the finest dampers, springs, brakes and anti-sway bars and if the tires can't handle what you're putting into them all of the other parts might as well not be there.
Check into BFGoodrich tires. They are proven performers and they work well at a decent price. They're also an American company unlike Kumho.

I'd recommend the Goodyear or the BFG over the Kumho any day. More or less, all the Kumhos that I saw coming into the shop when I worked at discount tire had some sort of an unusual wear pattern. The Goodyears and the BFGs, however, usually looked pretty good when they came in.

ok...well if I go with Goodyear (BFG does not make a 265/40/17 and all their stuff seems to be directional), what is a really good tire that won't cost an arm and a leg? What do you think of:
1) Pirelli
2) Yokohama
3) Michelin
4) Hoosier
another question is:
1) can I put a 315 tire on a 10.5" rim?
2) can I put a 255 on a 9.5" rim?
3) can I put a 275 on a 9.5" rim?
finally:
If I put a set of Goodyears on the front (looks like I might have to stay with them), will I have any problems if I put something like a Michelin or Hoosier on the rear (for more tire width)?

You can cross Michelin off your list if you want cheap. They are probably the most expensive on the list, their tires are also usually pretty hard, but they handle great.
I wouldn't put a 255 on a 9.5" rim. They will look like they are stretched/forced onto the wheel, which they will be. And they more than likely won't wear correctly. You can put a 275 on a 9.5, you can also do the 315 on a 10.5. What wheels do you have that are sized 10.5"? Goodyear GSD3 or whatever they are are supposed to be good. The above reccomended BFGoodrich tires will probably do what you are looking for. If you had the cash, I would reccomend the Michelins, you really can't beat a Michelin tire for street driving. I have no experience with Kumhos, or the new Goodyears. I had Gforce TA Kds for a short bit tho, and for what was left on the tire they kicked ***. (they were used)

the wheels are take off factory Z06 rims:
17" X 9.5" front
18" X 10.5" rear
Pirelli and Michelin are the only to companies that I have found (thus far) that make a 315/30/18....most stop at 285/35/18 (narrower than what I have now) and a very small few go to 295/35/18 (what I have now).
