In doin a little research, I found, atleast it's true for MT's and Nittos, that the 305/35/18's are actually wider than the 315/30/18's. Just a thought. I personally went with 335/30/18 Nitto 555R's on my DD Y2K's, and love them. It's not recommended to go that wide on a 10.5" wheel, but I said screw it since I knew a few guys who had, and saw that it wasn't really stretched much.

Thanks for the heads up man, but where did you find a NITTO 555 in 305/35/18?

Also, your car looks sweet with those tires and I would to put some like that on mine, but I heard that they wouldn't fit correctly on my 10.5 inch rim. I'm worried about blowing out a tire b/c of the fitment.

(I'd get it if they make one...I could only find 295s)

Venom.... Once you hit a certain power level street tires are street tires, no matter how good they are they are not going to hook. My car is scary with about 50 less rwhp than you are making. ( I belive you said you make 400 rear wheel ) So you are going to have to go to a drag radial.
As far as your questions about how the tires sit on the wheel and how they hook.... I have ran all these Drag Radials, the M/T, BFG, Toyo, and Nitto 555R drags, here is the break down.
Nitto 555R: Sits skinny and does not hook as good as the others but lasts longer.
M/T: Sits skinny but hooks very very good, don't last very long and didn't feel like they were as stiff in the sidewall as the others.
BFG: Sit fat and hooked in between the Nitto and the Toyo.
Toyo TQ: My personal favorite, Sit fat, sidewall feels firm, and they hook real well. Mileage is moderate.
The new nitto looks like it will hook better than the 555R, have not seen how they sit as far as width.
