I have read the stickies and searched, but it seems that new tires are always coming out so some reading material on tires is dated.


I have some 18 inch Y2K DDs on the rear now, and am pushing a little over 400 RWHP. This car is my daily and it's pretty much year round hot down here.

I am looking to hook up on the streets with a 315 tire. (I have read around and there are many differing opinions on what to go with, so maybe someone can help me with what I'm looking for in a tire.)


1) I would like the 315s (Street Radials or Max performance street tires, whichever fits my tire requirements)

2) This may sound stupid, but I love the look of a wide tire on the back of the TA and want my tire to stick out a little over the rim. That's why I'm trying to go with 315s.

3) I'm reading that Nittos are skinny and look stretched. (I'm really not into that look.)

4) The car is daily driven so wear is a factor, but I don't mind a little compromise. If I have to give up just a little traction to get a good wearing tire, I'm willing to do so.

5) Willing to spend a little extra if it means longevity and traction.

6) I don't mind having my fenders rolled to fit certain tires.

If anyone can point me in the right direction or help out at all I would appreciate it.

how about what suspension parts do you have? maybe the problem isn't as much the tire as it is lack of the right suspension to put the rubber to the road.

My rear wheel is the 10.5 inch wide. ( http://www.oewheelsllc.com/Wheels-fo...39428-3-1.html ) I currently have "Wide Ovals" 295/35/18 on there from a previous owner...they do not hook on the street.

I'm currently going through the process of ordering suspension mods as we speak. All double adjustable UMI roto joint stuff and LCAs, relocates, etc. So suspension is not going to be a problem anymore.


In my first post I listed the different things that are important to me in finding the right tire, whether its a street radial OR just a really good dry traction street tire.

Any thoughts?

Wzup dude I'm running 315's bfg radials on my car and they hook pretty well once heated up and broken in. Hope this helps

With that kind of power, you're probably going to need some type of drag radial. The nitto 555R seems to wear quite well for a drag radial. Maybe 10-12k out of them. Some get more, some less.

I have the Nitto NT555 street tire on the back. It sticks decently for a street tire, and the life on them is supposed to be good.

The Nitto 555 seems to be the best kind of "daily driver" drag radial.

There are better drag radials but there street manners are not as good...

Thank you all for the help...I guess I'm going to go ahead and order the Nitto 555 series...

Some people are saying the 555 and some 555R, is there a difference as far as wear is concerned?


EDIT: I've read that they fit or look "stretched" over the rim and aren't that wide...is this true or could someone post a pic of them on their ride? And if they do fit like that could I go a little wider than 315 to offset tht "look"?

I've been trying to find some NITTO 555s (not the "R"), but can't find anyone carrying the right size:
315/35/18

Nitto doesn't make a non drag radial 315/35/18 according to the website.

Thank you for checking. I noticed that also, but I was hoping that their site just wasn't updated on sizes...

So does anyone have a suggestion for a tire that is comparable to the NITTO 555 in the size: 315/35/18

In doin a little research, I found, atleast it's true for MT's and Nittos, that the 305/35/18's are actually wider than the 315/30/18's. Just a thought. I personally went with 335/30/18 Nitto 555R's on my DD Y2K's, and love them. It's not recommended to go that wide on a 10.5" wheel, but I said screw it since I knew a few guys who had, and saw that it wasn't really stretched much.

get rid of those junk low profile tires and put som drag radials on there my car has 100% stock factory shocks and springs and will drag the back bumper on the street
