Default Nitto Tires

Hey Guys,

My 94 TransAm is putting down about 700+RWHP. Can't hook on the street, any feedback on Nitto NT05, NT555R, NT555R2, or any other sticky tire for the street?

Size 295-35-18 or 305-35-18.

Thanks

I would look at the m/t dr 305/35/18 .. nittos won't stand a chance with 700whp.

Thanks Vince,

I ran m/t drag radial 275-40-17 on my old set up that made 415 rwhp. The car hooked awsome. With my new set up I upgraded the brakes and
18" wheels, I wasn't sure if my 17" wheels would clear the calipers. I tried them on tonight and they worked pretty good. I think that I will take you up on your opinion.

I'm pretty sure that Nitto held the title for fastest street radial for a while not to long ago. This was on Nt555R2's running 8's with a 275(I'm pretty sure) tire.

The R2's are a road racing tire with a stiff sidewall for increased lateral grip. You're probably thinking of the standard Rs.

Uou're right, got those mixed up because I ran both the R2's and R's on my SS.

I was just going to suggest the NT05R as well but the sizes are pretty limited right now. You might be able to run them in a 17" with a little work. Anyone running 17" wheels at the track with 315/35R17's?

The reviews on the NT05R have been very strong. Hard to say if they will be better than MT's but their will be some battles this year for sure.

Are you turbo or supercharged??

I had nittos on my car it was set to about 650rwhp last season. The nittos would hook on hot days in like middle of third usually when my car was six speed.I swapped to auto and the nittos were pretty worn down and knew they weren't likely to hook.
I got myself a pair of et street radials to run at track and some street use .I also just got some toyo tq to try out as 24/7 street tire this season. The toyo supposedly work in rain not bad like the nittos but are stickier and of course not likely to last that long but a season or so out of my tires is pretty much all I can expect at my power levels.
I wouldn't be using the toyo tq for track I dont' think , as said have the et streets for that. My tires are all 275/40/17 size.

Also if you are turbo you may want to look at other ideas besides tires. I have eboost 2 and can ramp my boost by rpm ,time or gear. You can ramp by gear with six speed or auto, but ramping by gear takes a bit more work. I intend to use ramping by gear on street and maybe by time on track.

Also looking into pricey variable traction control by racelogic and am experimenting using my auto torque management as poor mans traction control. I dont' have any factory traction control.Didn't get that option didn't think needed it but man it would be handy now especially in bad weather or when crazy speed freak brother drives my car!
