Default 17x11'' DR with 1000whp?

So who here makes some power and uses a DR on a 17'' rim. How is traction both street and strip? MT, BFG and Nitto all make a tire to fit but not sure if any are worth it.

Well my dillema is that I already have a new set of TTII's with street tires. Now I know the tires have to go but I was trying to find a way to keep the TTII's but don't want to feel as if I'm on ice all the time. I'd also have a set of drag wheels with all out skinnies for the track if the TTII's with nice DR's will work.

How are you making the 1000rwhp? Just add a street tune with low boost (assuming you're FI) or don't spray and you'll be fine on mickeys with the rest of the power.

Not looking to change a pulley once it's set.

Either a Mickey T, or BFG should help quite a bit. I can see traction being a problem from anything besides a high roll with 1k on the street, even with DRs.

I guess the question is, how much traction loss will I see between the same DR on a 15'' to a 17'' rim? Is it worth it to take a loss on the TTII's and get 15's for the street too?

I'd go with those. It's a 28" tire so it will cope with the massive hp better than a 26" will. Might take a bit of work to make fit if you still have bumpstops and such though.

I would definitely look into the M&H DR. Mine hooks pretty good on the street now (put down 754rwhp).

i had et streets on my old malibu and they didnt hook on the street at all they were 275's on a 15" rim,you may have better luck with a wider tire? i was only making around 500 but i did have 456 gears so that had an effect on traction also.

I can hook on my 17's if I do a few things. The tires have to be warm, my suspension has to be set loose up front and somewhat stiff in the back. Also I can't leave on any real boost so the Tbrake is out of the question. I also have to set the tires at low pressure. Full pressure just makes smoke throughout my run. It hazes the tires all the way. It's fun to watch but doesn't make for a fast run on the street. I have M/T DR's. I have a 4000 stall and it launches pretty good with no boost. Then I let the boost come up normally up to 19PSI or so. 21 PSI will sometimes blow the tires off if the pavement is cool at all. 19PSI = 886RWHP while 21PSI = 907RWHP.

This is through a TH400. I don't 1000RWHP but I don't think the tires would hold it on the street.

Ive seen Dave Childress go low 9's on 17 " drag radial . Not sure what brand it was tho . Do a search for his name , youll pull something up on here . Or talk to some of the true street guys . If you really are making 1000 hp at the wheels , setting up your chassis and having a street tune is gonna be as important as the tire u run or its gonna feel like your on ice on the street regarless of tire selection .

You don't have to go anywhere else. I ran 9.35's on 17" Drag Radials with no issue and could pretty much repeat that number over and over at the track. Thats isn't a problem. But hooking on the street is completely different in the launch. Now Dave (Mighty Mouse) ran high 8's on a 17" DR. That's something I haven't done as of yet.

Few of you are naming the type of drag radial used. I was leaning toward a MT but would like more reviews on M&H
