Default Bought some 285's for my 10.5 rim

I read the stickies before I bought any tires and I decided to go with a 275 on my fronts (17x9.5) and a 285 on the rears (18x10.5). I am on a tight budget and I went with some Sumitomos HRT Z III. My question is I have been reading some posts on here about 285's looking like s**t when put on 10.5 rims. Is this true or is there some hope for me??

a 275 streches a little. but i like the stretched look vs a blocky tire. I think you will be ok with a 285. it wont look a meaty as a say 305 but it wont look a gay as a 255 either( and ive seen it and it looks pretty gay)

I was going to go with a 295 but Sumitomo didnt make a 295/35r18. I really couldnt afford 300 bucks a tire.

I work for a dealership so I got my fronts for about 100 each and the rears for 120 each. Even with my discount they wanted 360 each for goodyears and almost 500 each for some Pilot Sports!

I just got some 285's for a 10.5" also, they will be fine. I don't think they will appear stretched.

I've got a 295 Bridgestone RE760 on a 18x10.5, and the sidewall has a very slight bulge, almost straight. Your sidewalls should be just over 10.5" wide, so they should be pretty much straight relative to the face of the wheel.

It depends on the tire to some extent though, because certain manufacturers run narrower/wider than others.

PS2s are only 380 on tirerack... your dealership is a rip off.

That's with most dealerships if not all.

Ya that's how dealerships get you. You take a tire that cost 380, then the dealership has to make money so they tack on 15%, and the charge you sales tax which is another 7% here in FL. Since its not a tire we do not stock I will get charged $60 freight.

I measured inside the tire from wall to wall and the measure right at 10.5. So I'm thinking I maybe ok. They do seem wider than normal.

Wow, your dealer does suck at that. I ordered My 275/35r18 and 315/30r18 Pilot Sport PS2's for $300 and $400 each (roughly, dont have receipt in front of me). No shipping charge either because they are Porsche Spec tires and that is one of the lines this dealer carries. The fronts are Viper spec, but I still dont remember a shipping charge. Now, yes, the customer charge on those 315's would have been $500+ each! Typically we also get charge 10% over..... Which also includes local parts store stuff. We usually get a 20% discount at local stores and other dealers, but if you have our dealer order it for you, gets delivered by other dealer/parts store, my dealer tacks on 10% (just for making a phone call, IMO). I bypass that and just pay the drivers when they get here. Sorry to take this off topic.......

I have 285s on the front of my car. They're not too bad, but I do want to upgrade to 315s at some point.

Your dealership probably gets them for alot less than 380. they dont pay retail on parts, they have deals the companies who products they sell and get them at probably somewhere around 75% of what the public pays. in return the dealership is suppose to advertise and try and push that products sales on its clients.

What i was getting at is that even though you got your discount from the dealership on the tires you purchased, you probably still over paid.

Those dont look that bad at all. Tomorrow is the moment of truth. I get them mounted and balanced. I will post some pics if anyone is curious how the look. I am curious to see how the Sumitomo do on my DD.
