Default Fireston Firehawk Wide Ovals Opinions

Looking at possibly getting some 285/40/17 for the rear stock WS6 rims. So far I have read some good reviews on the tire, good grip, wet and dry traction. Just wanted to get some more feedback to make sure I am making a good decision. I want to go wider than 275 in the rear for better traction, not too worried about rotating the tires. Thanks guys

I like them. They are a good all around tire, but not great at anything. Still a good tire for a daily driver. I had GS-D3s before the wide ovals and the GS-D3's had much better wet and dry traction.

+1 on a good all around tire. I have them on my 02, and love them.

Excellent tires. I've been using them on two cars for about 3 or so years now. Excellent on wet pavement too, as well as great dry traction. They haven't worn particularly fast, pretty average on the wear. For what its worth, they solved numerous problems I was having with a variety of brands I had put on my other car. The problems solved were excessive road noise, uneven wear and pulling. I think I spent 2 days researching these tires online before I picked up my first set.

The latest two replaced a crappy worn set of Dorals on the rear of my new Z28. Those Dorals had the gripping power of hot butter. Scared the crap out of me when I took off a few times after I first got the car. I personally think you'll like the Wide Ovals.

Thanks guys, I ask because a found a set on ebay for relatively cheap. I checked with Firestone and they actually discontinued these size/tires and did not replace them. I am not a big fan of spending big $$$$ on tires, and looking around, these seem like a good price for what I will be using them for, basically spare tires. I think I'm gonna get them from the favorable feedback on here and can't beat the price for a new set of tires.
