NT05R vs 555R
Has anyone compared the old Nitto 555R drag radial versus their new NT05R drag radial? Pros Cons? I'm guessing by the tread design that the 555R would be better in the rain and the NT05R would be better in dry conditions. Does the NT05R need a long burnout as compared to the 555R? Any opinions or real life testing that you guys have done?

I've been wondering the same. I know that those old Nittos have proven to be short of useless for the local fbody crew around here, wet and dry conditions. Best times I've seen were 1.90 60' times on a guy's 35th SS, turn around and slapped on the MT ET Streets and went 1.5s

I have gone 1.7s in the new nt05r but I fail at burnouts. They do hook like a **** on the street . But I now need new ones as I had them on for a whole yr and this past frieday I could not hook. Cutting 2.0 , 1.9, 1.8s lol ... I'm getting me. New set cause I like these new nittos

nitto
i switched from the 555r's to the nt05r's and love them. i don't have much street time on them due to the weather, but i feel like they hook alot better street and strip. 555r- best 1.79 60ft, and always chirped 2nd and 3rd. nt05r- best 1.65 60ft with soft launch, and not the first sign of wheel spin the whole run.

This is something I wanted to know, I get nervous driving my car in the rain and I do all highway driving. I do daily the car and my next set of tires will probally be a set of nitto nt05r's in a 315/35/17. How do the nitto nt05r's compare to the nt555r's as far as width goes. I like how the BFG drags are wide as hell and the nt555r's are smaller. Are the NT05r's wider then the nt555r's? Thanks any input would be appreciated sorry to thread high jack

Never done a real side by side comparison, but the 555r's work well for me. the nt05's are softer. a buddy with a 2010 ss had 555r's first then got nt05's and said they were better.
My nt555r's hook well on the streets with rougher pavement, but to hook well at the track you need to get them pretty hot. But i mean, its that way for all tires to an extent.

Ive ran as low as 15psi and as high as 25 @ the track on 315/40/17 nt55r's to see what works best. The lower psi it the better it seems to hook. Be careful going as low tho because they do not have collapsable sidewalls. Next time at the track im going to start out around 18 and adjust up/down from there

At the track I would run mines at 20psi.
Here's the thread about how they looked after 30K miles
