Anyone measure 315 Nitto DRs?

Been running a 275 555R for a while now on a 8" rim because I knew that they ran narrow. Finally got the tape measure out to see how wide these suckers are and they were exactly 10 inches wide aka 255s. The Nitto website states that they are 10.9 inches my ***.
I'm stepping up to some 9.5" wheels and liking the tire I was going to go with the same setup, but now I'm thinking that 255 tires on that wheel would look goofy...plus I like the bulge of wider tires. So that got me thinking in looking at the 315s and figuring that if they advertise them as 12.1" that they would actually be some 0.9" smaller, so like a 11.2-11.3...which comes out to a 285 tire that is right in my range.
So has anyone actually measured out their 315 Nitto DRs?

holly **** even if they do run narrow theres no way id put a 315 of a 9.5 wheel. nittos athorized minimum wheel width for their 315s is 10.5. just my .02 but i think your askn for trouble puttn the 315s on a 9.5

And if it's closer to 12.2" wide as they state in the spec sheet, then I will go for a 10.5" wheel

it will fit on a 9.5x17 wheel I have personally seen and done it.
would it fit better on a 10.5?
yes it would, if you can get a 10.5 wheel
that is preferred
if you only have a 9.5 and don't want to spend the money then it's ok too.
wasn't that much of an issue that people make it out to be
would I do it with another brand 315?
No, only the Nittos from what I saw in 17" was narrow enough to get away with running on a 9.5x17 wheel.

The 555r's run narrow. People focus too much on the advertised metric width vs the actual tread width. I would run a 315 555R on a 17x9 or 17x9.5 instead of a 275 555R.
Here's my old setup. 315/35/17 555R on a 17x9 WS6 wheel. I ran them around 22psi so the centers don't wear out too quickly. Went through two sets of them before I stepped up to a true 315 drag radial and an 11" wheel.

I really think the 315 555R looks at home on a 10" wheel. Anything under 10"s they bulge slightly and anything over a 10" wheel they look stretched.

Nitto doesn't make anything bigger than a 315/35/17 in a 555R.
I run a 315/35/17 Toyo TQ drag radial on my 17x11 WS6 wheels. Putting the 315 TQ next the 315 555R and there was about an inch difference in width.

I have never actually measured, but i have always heard that the 315's run narrow. I have them on a 17x11

315 nittos are way smaller than other tires. my buddies BFG was about .75" wider than my Nitto was. Everyone flames for running a 315 on a 9.5 wheel but it's a better option than the 275s IMO...

Wow there's quite a difference...I don't get how they legally can call it a 275 tire and actually being a 255? Isn't that some sort of false advertising?
Like selling a 400hp car but it only putting down 370hp (we all know how that panned out with the early new edge cobras). Or selling a computer with 4gb of ram and only putting 3gb in there.

I have the 555r in 315/35/17 on the stock 1999 camaro ss (zr1 style) wheels. They look ok with just a little bulge. I'm getting new wheels and only going up to 17x9.5. I realy think this tire is to narrow for the standard 17x11.

I knew my 245/50/16 555Rs looked skinny. I thought that maybe it was an optical illusion brought on by the tread pattern or something. No wonder my turd spun them.
BTW IIRC the '99 Cobras made less than their advertised power from the factory; owners had to send them back to Ford to have that corrected so that they would stop having sand kicked in their face by the (cheaper) LS1 cars.
Of course in 2003 the Cobra redeemed itself. Big time. [/hijack]
