How would it compromise anything if you throw on some worthy tires??

I can't see the rims themselves beings tructurally dangerous, and if you only make the occasional trip to the strip, why not?

Using the wheel with a drag tire should be fine and even if the wheel doesn't weigh a ton less the tires will.

Umm if your car can lift the front tires do NOT USE the spares. I had to use my spare recently until the tire shop opened to warranty to warranty a dead tire a a very small rough spot on the road, not quite a pot hole, managed to destroy my spare wheel while doing 35 mph in a 45... They are friggen cheap...
