Switching from 17'' Drag Radial setup to 15'' Race setup... Traction problems!
Let me start by saying I've searched this to death and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. My car: 00 SS Camaro, 4.10 gears (10 bolt), 4400 Yank, T-Rex Cam, QA1 at all 4 corners, sfc's, lcas, PHB, and all supporting bolt ons. I'm currently on a set up of 315/35/17 BGF drag radials and they just aren't cutting it at all. I bought a set up 15x10, 15.4 prostars and am curious as to what type of tire would be best suited for my car.
I realize my setup is kind of extreme, but I drive it quite a bit more on the street (weekends, its not my DD) than I do at the track, but it will start seeing more track time.
So it all boils down to two questions basically... 1. Tire model (15 inch drag radial or DOT slick) 2. Tire size (26 or 27 inch, 12.5 or 13.5)
I hate to go any skinnier than my 315's in terms of section width, which is 12.4 inches. But I'm not sure Im ready to ***** out my wheel wells with a hammer.
What should I be running guys? Help me out. Just really tired of going up in smoke at a 50 mph punch lol.

Well the only reason I'm hesitant putting DRs back on it is because how bad mine have been. I'm hoping by going with Mickey Thompson DRs, and by having a softer sidewall compared to my 17s, traction will improve. But I'll be honest if it wasn't for having to deal with tubes I'd already have slicks ordered. Oh and I'm not crazy about slicks flinging rocks all over my car either.
Anyone else?
Oh and I'm a SPF Mo native lol.

Those cars also have a bit more suspension than your standard 11 second F body, boost controllers, and many other tricks that make them leave soft on small tires. To the OP, it's really hard to give a height without knowing what the car goes through the traps at RPM wise. However, a 27 or 28" tire will always hook better than a 26" tire, the more sidewall, the more hook, however you don't want to kill your ring & pinion ratio. With any size decision, I would run a drag radial on it, over a bias ply tire, being that your car is an automatic.
