can it be done...yes
should it be done....probably not
have I done it....yes but even worse with a 325 on a 15x8 wheel
Never had any wear problems but it made the big end of the track fun when you're sitting on balloons. Here's a pic of how it looked. I now run 275s on the same wheel, the 325s was just overkill and have since run much better 60ft times on the 275s

If people want put a 305, 315, 325, 335 tire on their cars then they need to buy the correct width rim and roll on their day. I think putting a 305/315 on a 9/9.5" wheel is retarded. It bulges and looks stupid; not to mention unsafe. Say the OP was to go around a corner ***** out and the tire were to fold and pop off the rim causing him to spin out and wreck, you'd be the DA that told him it was "OK" to do it. And to say the tire will wear incorrectly, well to be honest on this entire forum, the majority at least, WHO BUYS THEIR TIRES EXPECTING THEM TO LAST? Yes, it is a valid point to say it will wear incorrectly, but honestly it's because the tire wasn't meant for that rim width and if it isn't meant for it, it's because it's WRONG.
OP, do what you want, however no a 305 tire was not meant for a 9.5" wheel. If you want to run a wide tire on the rear, buy the right width rim.

I'm honestly not trying to be a dick but for some reason your response set me off. If you've been in the tire business for 10 years why do you give people, in my opinion, bad advice. No, a 305 tire was not meant for a 9.5" wheel. Period.

the op asked 3 questions in his original post
1. will it mount?
yes
2. has anybody run this fitment?
not me
3. Everything work out ok?
it will not wear correctly
also, just like LS6427 i have run a 315 on my factory wheel for many years, and neither one of us is dead. Guess it cant be too unsafe.

Remember to take a look at the actual tire width in inches.. some tires are wider/narrower even for the same advertised width. Take for example the Nitto 555 street tire and Nitto 555r drag radial.. Both tires in advertised 315 width and the Nitto 555 street tire is actually wider by quite a bit.

This one is done . . . IT DOES NOT FIT!
There is so mush BS and misinformation here . . .
Plus saying a 295 fits . . is totally WORTHLESS without the aspect ratio!
A 295/45 will fit a 9.5" wide wheel . .
A 295/35 WILL NOT . . now yes you can force it on . . .
FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
A square peg WILL fit in a round hole . . . you just need a big enough hammer.
