Default My Michelin Pilot Sport took a **** on me...

So I was driving to work last Wednesday and I smelled a weird burning rubber/plastic smell. I figured it was under the hood and I couldn't do anything about it anyway so I figured I'd check it at work.

The car handled fine and I guess it had a slow leak. I have no Idea how long I drove on it but I didn't feel the steering wheel wobble until I was on the home stretch to the office and I drove for 2 blocks really slowly and pulled into my driveway.

Then I saw this....

..... man am I lucky!

damn thats alot of wheel weights. do you think the offset of the wheel and the size tire caused rubbing? i would check the other front tire and see if it is wearing anywhere else

Did you ever fix your alignment after you tried to sell me a tire that had cord showing on the inside?

I'd say check for a possible puncture source, but I'm sure you got rid of the tire already.

Most likely he got a slow puncture then probably being unaware drove it like normal until the inside sidewall wore down on the lip of the rim. Great tire but those Michelins ain't cheap!

There probably is no puncture. Looks like the car is out of align BAD. When you get a new tire check your LF to see if its chewing off the inside, and get an alignment.

9" to 9.5" - not that wide.

Yup, it's very minimal wear if any at all.

Thats what the tire tire guy seemed to think too. There was no blow out, or rubbing. I might've punctured it and as it leaked I wore that wear mark into the sidewall.

Tell me about it. Yes, I did do a little spot, but not all of that, lol. The good thing is that with my new PS's on, you can't see any of that! WHEW....

Now i need DR's for the rear. Thinking of trying Toyo Proxes R888's (not quite a DR, but close enough). We'll see...

My 335 did the exact same thing to me on the way home from work 1 night at about 1:30am. Pissed the wifey off a bit because my battery currently resides where the spare tire used to be.

R888's won't make good drag radials. They are a road race tire and need driving time to heat up before they're good. They have very stiff sidewalls and tread contact area, which makes them not as grippy as a drag radials from a dead stop. However, they do make them in your size... 275/35/18. Going to a bigger sidewall won't make them soft like a drag radial. They're R-compound road race tires with reinforced sidewalls. 285/30/18 is too much of a difference for ABS - it's a 3.3% difference from stock (smaller). 295/30/18 is 2.4% difference from stock (smaller). However, 285/30/18 is the widest tire approved for use on a 9.5" wide wheel.
