Adaquate Tires for Daily Driving?
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a tire to use for daily driving on either the stock 01 WS6 Wheels or ZR-1's (Not sure which I want to keep on).
I read countless threads about the BFG's and Nitto Drag radials, but living in Michigan and being daily driven during the summer rain or shine, I need a tire with a bit more wear and tread for the long haul and occasional wet weather (when I can't avoid it). Is there any tire that hooks up decently on the street for a fun romp here and there, but won't cost me an arm and a leg like the nitto's and stand up to at least a season of daily use. I'm aware you can't have the best of both worlds, but I was hopeing the tire wouldn't be completely useless for anything besides grandma-like acceleration or cornering. The car won't see track time this year, simply because it's so new to myself and I'm filling my closet with go fast parts for the winter... if that helps at all.
Thanks a lot in advance.

You may want to check into the Kuhmo Exsta MX's. I think it is a very good performing tire, at a very reasonable price. Only downfall is they have a busy looking sidewall... but it's not too bad.

My favorite daily driving tire yet has been the Dunlop SP8000 in ZR1 size. It's far stickier than a GSC, F1, or SZ50, has great tread life, low noise and good ride. It's not as sticky as a BFG G-Force KD, S02, etc but it has twice the life.

I like the Nitto 555's. Not the Extreme Drags but the regular 555's. They are a regular z-rated radial and can handle pretty much anything you throw at them! Lots of tread life too!
Nitto DR's will last you about 12k -15k, the BFG DR will last you about 6k - 12k....
For a daily driver go with the Kumho MX they will last long and they are pretty good for traction. Yokohama AVS's are an awesome tire but a little more pricey.

Get the Goodyear GS-D3's. Probably the best street tire for our car. Likely the best wet handling tire on the market. Great dry traction and awesome treadwear. You have to see them. Deep tread pattern, so I'm sure they'll last. I used to be able to spin by just blipping the throttle in 1st or 2nd. Not anymore. I need more horsepower now. lol
Ah, well thanks for all the great suggestions. I happen to work at a Discount Tire to I have the option to get any tire I wish, at very good prices. But also, being that I work at discount tire, I can't afford to buy those tires I get at awesome prices twice a year
.
I just asked the board because as much as I know, and my co-workers know about tires, we just know how to sell them to the general public. When it comes down to very specific uses and specific cars, it's always the hobbiest that know best, not us.
Thanks again for all the suggestions, I now have an excuse to hide in the office and look into these and call around for what they are at cost.
