Default 275/40-17 Tires (NT05, NT05R, and Azenis 615K)

I understand the Azenis 615K is a competitor to the NT05, and I'm thinking of running either on all four corners or a combo of the NT05 on the front and NT05Rs on the rear.

I have an A4 with a planned 3800 Stall with 3.23s with h/c/i with over 450rwhp using stock 17x9 wheels. I'd like to hook on the street, and the NT05/NT05R combo had been what I was planning on, but it rains a lot in Florida, and I don't want to be caught in heavy rain driving around with DRs. So I don't know how well the NT05s (not DRs) will grip on the rear or how well the 615Ks will work on all four corners.

I run Strano Springs and Koni 4/4 shocks, and want something that will handle pretty decent as well, but haven't decided yet to go to a full competition handling type of tire like the Toyo 888s or NT01s. Although, those might give me the best of both.

I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks

I had some nt05s out back in a 275/40/17, and at the track (1/4 mile), they were horrible. Any kind of burnout more intense that just cleaning them off and they get slippery feeling. For a handling/autoX car they are nice and stiff and responsive, but for the kind of power you are gonna put down Id get the nt01s.

If you are at all concerned about handling quality dont get a drag radial. I went from 275 size nt05 street tires to 315/35/17 toyo dr's (proxes tq), and the rear feels very soft in sharp cornering, but it hooks tons better in a straight line. When these toyos wear out I plan to get some nt01s for the street.

FYI the nt05s are worse than my dr's in the rain.

Awesome feedback.

Hmm, maybe the NT01 wins. It'll definitely be stickier, but at street PSI (26-30), I wonder if the DRs are really any stickier than a handling tire like the NT01/R888.

idk if you wanna get caught in the rain with an nt01 either though. how much power are you making? i think nt05s are a good street tire, but its a street tire. so it depends. i have r888 in the front, toyo tqs in the rear. but my next setup its probably going to be nt05 front nt05r rear.

Once my heads/cam are on it'll be 440/400 or so or more. But who knows with the way A4s react on the dyno.

Toyo TQs are interesting as well. Are they based on the NT555R compound or the NT05R compound (since Toyo manufactures Nitto)? And do they run smaller like the NT555Rs or regular like the NT05R?

I wonder what would be a good street front tire to match with that? Toyo R1R?

Wonder if there is any difference if the tread compounds are the same.

I had the older version of the Falken Azenis RT615, (new one is the RT615K) and switched to Toyo TQ's. From what I understand Toyo owns Nitto and is the same compound found in the NT555R. I decided on the Toyo TQ's because it was the best bang for buck in 315/18's. The Toyo's seemed to hold down the power when I gunned it better than the RT615. Keep in mind the RT615K is an auto-cross tire with stiffer sidewalls.

Yeah I know. Kind of a pain in the *** to have to give up twistys in order to take off on the street without going sideways.

How do the Toyo TQs handle when aired up? And the NT05Rs are available with free shipping from Discount Tire Direct and WS6Store. The TQs are available at places like Tirerack with their shipping fees. Argh.

OP,

I am looking at the same thing as you. I want a good DR that can hook, and still be safe to drive, and be bigger than a Nitto 555R 275... I am considering some NTO5R for the rear, or Toyo TQ.. Just not sure how those would drive in the rain?
