3" Narrow Rear End help (5" BS)
I apologize if this was discussed before, I am about to buy a 9inch rear and need help to decide what wheel backspace to get. I want to go with a 275/60-15 tire and the car is lowered 1.25".
I learned from this forum that a 3" narrowed per side diff will require a 4.5" backspace wheel for a 15 x 10 application for a stock config, but I want to tuck the wheel in a lil.
The question is, anyone here has a 3" narrow per side with 5" BS? Please show some pics if possible. What did you need to do?
Ive seen ppl with 3" Narrow and 5.5 BS but had to delete the bump stop and do more than massage the inner well, I dont mind doing the BFH beat-down but not delete the bump-stops.
So will the 3" / 5" BS tuck the wheel in without deleting the stops and the drama.
Thanks

Yea I've got a 3" narrowed rear and 5.5 backspace with 15x10 rts and I had to do some major clearance involving completing cutting out the bump stops and the entire area around it. As well as a **** ton of bfh. Even with all that I still run a .25 spacer and it is still really close.

So do you think I will be better of with the 4.5 backspace? Will it go smooth without the need to cut bump stops or anything like LCA'a, etc?

Every car is different of course, but when I switched to the "smaller" 275/60 15 I have a ton of clearance (BFH mod was for 305/35 18)
guys claim they're running 5.5 bs with rear narrowed 3"
I'm certain with a little BFH and MAYBE cutting the bump stop if you need to the 5" bs with 3" narrow will work great.
I plan on running a 6" bs rim with my rear currently at -2" per side. Best of luck making a decision.

Do you have 5.5 bs now? Did you have to do anything to the bump stops? 5.5 with -2 rear is identical to 4.5 with -3 so did everything go easy with your set-up.

Im sure that black Camaro kicked alot of asses with the 4sdp and 3.73, are those Corvette wheels? Looks cool it also looks like its lowered, is it 80-81? Or did you install the front fender flare?

The narrowed SS wheels WOW very creative I never thought about that, plus I dont think we have any shop that can do a clean job locally.

ty , it was 1988 ,stock springs sagging lol, 1978 z28 with 80 hood, side vents and chin spoiler. and yes 15x8 corvette rallies out back and 15x7 monte rallies on the front.
car ran 14.40s at 98mph , quick for a high school kid in 1988 lol.

Bad *** ride and nice wheel set-up, the hood and side vents I could not see, but the chin spoiler made me think its 80-81 , and as you said pretty faasst for a high school kid in 88

So what was your decision on the 15x10 wheel? I have a MWC with 3 inch narrow on each side running 17x11 with 4.75 bs and it is ok, but I am looking to get 15x10 wheels and can't decide what is the best BS for them and not have any rubbing issues.

Get the 4.5 backspace for the best clearance. 5.5 will tuck the rim and tire more but you have to do a lot of work to get it to fit right. If you get the 4.5 I would stick with a 275 size tire because any bigger and the tire pokes out a little and doesn't look that great.

I say if you're in there doing any work at all, you might as well go big and get that tire tucked up nice.
I'm running 3" narrowed per side with 5.5" Billet Specialties. Yes, I had to cut and BFH a bunch, but tucking a 295/50/15 looks so nice. I have zero regrets. I can't stand Fbodys with a tire sticking out of the wheel well.

Think of it as weight savings. Also, the car looks so great with the tire tucked up!
What you can look forward to as your prize for your hard work:

man that does look like ****. so so nice.
what is the set up on your fuel system? is it loud? why did you have to do it like that?
what kind of power does that support?
car looking great man.
I decided to get the 15x10 4.5 billet street lites.
waiting on the hoosier slicks to try them out.

Fuel system is: -12 to pump, -10 to a Y fitting, -8 to each rail, -8 to FPR and -10 return to tank. 160lb injectors. Fuel system is ready for an easy +1,000 with the fuel pump being the odd ball. Wish I went a different route on the pump, ah well. I don't know why I did it like this honestly. It's just the route I decided to take. It works fairly well!
