295/50r15 Hankook H101 VS 275/50r15 555r
I'm shooting to put around 350-400whp to the ground. Daily driver.
Nittos are 360$ a pair, hankooks are 240$ a pair.
How much more grip would the 555r have over the hankook? Would the price be worth it? Assuming Nittos would last me 15k miles where Hankook will last around 40k.
Hankooks also give a bit of a wider contact patch and are about 1" taller.
Again daily driver don't want to have to worry about dying in the rain but most say the nittos do just fine in the rain if you drive like a sane man.

Those tires aren't even remotely comparable at 420 treadwear all season and 100 treadwear drag tire.
Even a regular Nitto 555 will have at least 3 times the grip of any all season 295/50r15 tire made (unless Avon still makes a race tire in that size for Cobra kit cars).
The 555R will have considerably more grip on top of that. The Hankook will be like driving on ice in comparison.
The downside is the 275/50 runs even smaller than it's size rating suggests it would be. You might consider a 325/50 depending on the size wheel you intend to use.

I guess I'm wondering if I have any business getting a 555r when I'm only putting down 350-400? It's not v8 torque either it's gonna be through a 2jz.
I can't fit any more than a 295 even that will require rolling. Nittos have a more preferable tire height ratio.

I haven't bought my wheels yet so I can still go with 17" and nitto 555 or nt05 but not finding many affordable 17s I'd like. Most all of them are mustang where replicas.

Listen to thunderstruck507, he speaks the truth.
If you're putting down anywhere near 400rwhp, then you'll be wasting your time and money with anything less than a drag radial for the rears. Because you'll burn them clean off within 2k miles at tops. Not to mention, after you put all that work into your car, you'll be racing it right? Well while you're sitting there making 100ft black marks, the other guy is going to be at the finish line already lol.
Seriously though, I'd rather spend a little extra cash and get 10-12k miles out of a set of tires, then lose a race or not enjoy my car because lack of traction. Tbh, I only got 6k out of my drag radials, but I had at least 75 track passes and a lot of street runs. If I hadn't just put more power to them then they'd probably have gotten another 2k out of them.

Thank you for the reply. I'll spring for them on my first go around since I still have my daily driver car for the moment even though I'll be looking to sell it. I'll just keep a pair of junk wheels or run the tires to the chords like I did on my last set lol!
I was also considering going to 17s? Does that extra 2 inches of tire height make a huge difference if say I went 17s and got a 555 or nt05 non r compound? I just can't find my many reasomably priced 17s that look nice with me car, maybe 03' cobras but that's about it.
Also just curious friend has a gt mustang with 315 35 17 555s, would the grip on the 275 50 15 555r kick his ***?

I would probably switch to a different tire when it gets cold just run on my oem 16x7s. Might just get winter tires they should hook decent since they're about as soft as drags ;"D
