Default NT05R vs BFG dr

I've seen a lot of people on here who seem to be curious about how wide certain tires run, so I thought I'd share my experience. Today I just swapped my 315/35/17 BFG dr's for the NT05R in the same size. The BFG measured approximately 12.7 and the NT05R at 12.4. These measurements were done with the tires off the rim as well. Even though it may seem like a small difference in terms of numbers, the BFG is noticeably a tad wider, and definitely bulges over the 11" rim more than the NT05R. When spring comes I'll pick this thread back up, and give my impression between the two in terms of traction, handeling, etc....In the meantime I just wanted to share this for those who are interested

Man, I can't wait until spring! I just got the tires for my new wheels, so I'm getting close to being ready for nice weather. I went with a 315/35 18 Toyo TQ. There aren't as many options in the 18" range as there are in the 17. I also need to put in my new valve springs before I go WOT at the track, but that won't take long.

I've had both and prefer bfg's for traction hands down. Plus, as you stated, they are a little more true to size which I believe look better.

I thought it was only the 555R that ran narrow but I guess not. Or maybe it's just that the BFG runs extra wide compared to most. No doubt the NT05R is wider than the 555R though. Also the Toyo 315 is wide like the BFG

Joeformula, were both tires in the exact same size on the same car?

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to test the NT05R's out and give my impression compared to the BFG. From everything I've read the Nitto should handle a little better, and straight line traction should be similar. Hopefully they last longer, because the BFG wore out fast in my case

Sorry OP, I'll stop going off topic.

I had the BFG drag radials, they hooked well but didn't last very long. If you get stuck in a rain storm, those tires suck in the rain lol!

I'll probably do the valve springs next weekend, and I'll have the tires mounted by then as well. From there I just need to enlist Brent's help in rolling the quarters so I can fit those steam rollers in there, and she'll be ready to go. I won't drive it with salt on the road, so it'll come out to play whenever that crap is washed off the streets lol!

Yeah I hear ya. I'm the same way when it comes to salt on the roads lol. Rolling the fenders is not hard at all if you can get a fender roller and heat gun. I just took my time

Nittos lasted longer and bfg's sucked in the rain. I'd still prefer bfg's despite that

Ok thanks for the info. This NT05R looks like it would be horrible in the rain with that bald patch it has in the middle , so it's good to know it's at least better than the BFG
