Default Help me decide on street tires

Right now I have continental extreme contact 275/40r17 and they don't grip at all. When I purchased the car it had firehawk wide ovals and those were amazing.

I'm looking for a decent priced street tire that has good traction. The two I'm looking at right now are g force comp 2 and firehawk wide oval. Car is only driven in dry conditions so traction in rain is not important. What tires have you all had the best results with?

I've been pleased with the Nitto 555. Cheap, handle well, seem to be lasting a long time, and so long as it's warm out and the pavement isn't cold they stick decent for a street tire.

They also come in a 285/40r17 which I run on the rear for just a little extra meaty look and slightly taller rear sidewall.

I can get firehawk for 600 out the door. This includes mounting, tax and balance. How much was it total for you? I'm willing to spend a little more if the tire is worth it. Just not looking to spend a grand plus on tires at the moment.

Good price, they would be about the same by the time they were mounted/balanced.

The nitto 555 and the firehawk are pretty similar in my experience and are both decent for street tires. I felt like the wide oval was a little better "all weather" tire but really they should be pretty much the same

I just put the NT555 G2s on mine. They're good so far and the tread pattern looks awesome.

I'm surprised the Continentals performed worse for you than the Firehawks. That's certainly not the norm for all the reviews I've read. But there's no sure thing when it comes to tires.

I was considering Continental DW, Firehawk WO 500, Nitto 555, and BFG Sport Comp 2's. Decided to go with the BFG's due to the $70 rebate in play and that they ranked the highest overall on Tire Rack's UHP summer tire list. I got them for $505 w/balance/mounting/tax and added a $49 - 4 wheel thrust alignment which the car needed. The Nitto's and Firehawks are priced in that same general range. Had the BFG's for about 1000 miles so far without complaints. Their only weak spot is road noise, which isn't all that of an issue. That's supposedly a high point for the Continentals. But if they don't grip for you, low noise is of little help.

Another vote for Nitto 555's and likely the new 555 G2's. Great tires that do nothing really poorly for a street tire. As long as you understand that they aren't DR's and they won't hook a powerful car from a low speed then you should be happy with them.

I would recommend Continental Extreme Contact DW's, BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2's and even Goodyear F1 GS-D3 although they are expensive.
