Has anyone compared these more directly to the original 555?
My rears are getting a little thin so I'm starting to watch for deals and noticed they do make these in a 285/40r17 just like the older 555. Downside is they are a little more expensive. Just curious if there is a noticeable improvement before I stick to the cheaper 555.

Any feedback of G2's vs old school 555's??

So far I've only took them for a quick spin to pick up a pizza so I've barely got the fresh worn off of them.
Initial impressions are they are at least as good as the 555 Extreme but I'd say a bit better...my car has a good chunk more power than when the 555 Extremes were new (by about 50rwhp/20 ft lbs.
A violent 1st gear downshift or hammering it WOT from a dead stop like an idiot will both send them up in smoke...but on the street it would do the same to 555R or MT ET Street radials.
Rolling into the throttle hard they will struggle in 1st, kinda hazing a bit but once they bark 2nd as long as it doesn't shock them on slicker than normal pavement it grabs and holds 2nd well.
Once the new is worn off of them I bet they would stick well with some heat in them.
They'll do what I want from a street tire that should last me 3-4 years. I sure haven't found any other tire in this size (or a comparable 275/40r17) and price range that's better in any way.
I didn't take a measurement and it could be my imagination but I think they look a hair wider on the wheel than the old 555 did. Could also be the larger tread blocks and gaps playing tricks on my eyes.

I don't know what your setup is.
My post is a review of the tire as a daily driver/ weekend cruiser street tire on an automatic trans car that makes 430rwhp unlocked (a manual trans car with my engine would make ~470rwhp N/A).
Mostly how it compares to the original Nitto 555 street tire. No summer street tire is going to compare well against a drag radial. I have Hoosier DOT Radials for that...they don't spin unless there is water or dirt on the road.
I can boil the tires if I want to, but they are manageable for street duty with throttle modulation on pavement that's hotter than the floors of hell. Even when they spin the car has noticeable acceleration as the tires are trying their damnedest to grab. All reviews I've read say they are also great in rain but I doubt I get to test that within the next 6-8 months.

I hope you're not basing your experience with the ~300 tread wear street tire designed for all around performance (not just drag racing) getting traction for a 700rwhp car...

I will say they are a good looking tire with good wear characteristics. But I believe they could be a little better traction wise...even with the 300 rating.

Played around some over the weekend and my gauges have built in timers which I've found to be very accurate given a spin doesn't cause a false read.
I was able to feather throttle from a stop to a 3.2 second 0-60ft time on these tires on hot pavement. Previous attempt showed 2.9 but I wasn't watching the speedo close enough to say confidently it wasn't a false read due to tire spin.

Finally got my car back and had the G2's mounted and an alignment. So far I'm very happy with them, opted for 275's up front and 285's out back. My car has 423rwhp and a Circle D 3600 Billet Convertor. If I stomp on it they will break loose as expected ... but if I steadily gas it they hold great compared to my previous BFG's. Corner very well, I have no track plans so they should be good enough for me to tear up the streets
