You don't need to buy anything......just send your wheels to them and they supply the donor barrel as part of the widening process.....

As I mentioned, they do not do the "steel hoop" method......so they have donor barrels available already.

The understanding that I have, and the explanation as to why my wheels are not holding up, is that aluminum can not be plated with the same durability as steel wheels. My friend has 17 inch chrome cragers on his 69 camaro. They - besides beginning to rust after one year - are HEAVY AS ****.

Are we cursed trying to chrome plate aluminum? I do not want the look of after market rims on my car. I also want perfect chrome. Is this realistic?

You can buy a set of 4 from OE Wheels and then send them right to Classic Chrome. $750 for the strip/re-chrome and you have a set of high end rims.
I think you did good as well. HREs at this point are $9k+ for 3 piece wheels. I had a quote for $11k for the wheels I wanted lol.

Going with DPEs this time around. I have had IForged Senekas since 2003. Running a 295/35 out back on a 18X10 and fitment is perfect. Nothing on the insides, did cut about an 1/8" out of the quarter panel lip. I'll roll it flush if I have to at this point. Car is lowered almost 2.5" on LG coil overs.

My new 325/350/19 measures shy of 12.5" bead to bead, about 13 3/4" across the tread with no air in it. Thinking I may have to go 19x12.5" but I'm definitely going to have to do some cutting. Wish me luck

Why in the world would rims cost 11K?

I started a new thread about fitment. Tried to do it today.

They don't fit......but they are damn close and no big deal to make them fit. I just need to know what I can...and cannot....cut...safely.

Check it out....

Can you please explain the "steel hoop" method?

They simply cut a rim in two pieces......then they go get a piece of steel however wide you want to widen your rim and however long it needs to be to wrap arouind the rim where that cut was made....one time around. Then they weld that long piece of steel (the hoop) inbetween the two pieces they cut in half.
That hoop is now what holds the two rim halves together.....

HRE 545's were about the most popular, badass wheels you could buy 8-10 years ago. Still are today.

From memory, $4,400.00, brand new was my quote about 8 years ago.

They dont weld steel hoops to aluminum rims.

I appreciate the effort involved here, and i realize its unique, but what was the overall goal? Looks i guess......?

Are you asking him why he wants big wheels on the back of his car? Seriously? Are you going to now explain why the wont perform any better, why they will not increase traction, why a smaller tire would fit without modification and still meet performance goals? Please don't. He did because awesomeness.

Saw your other thread now OP, looks good. Can't wait to see a low rear end shot of those fng steam rollers.

Well yeah, it doesnt make sense, other then pure looks. Its a street tire, it wont hold a decent launch period, i dont care if it is 335 wide or whatever, the rubber is hard as hell. Cars run 8s on 275 tire, so width isnt as important in performance as you want us to believe sir.

^ you are forgetting the rotational mass of the 12" vs the 9" on a street vehicle traction is actually benefited by having more wheel to turn making it harder to break loose more from weight sake more than contact patch/compound materials. granted at certain power levels the compound and contact patch become far more important.

Yeah... that's not happening. You can't weld steel to aluminum. haha.

Who said one thing about width being important? I don't care if cars run effing 6's on a 225 tire. Has NOTHING to do with my point. My point was, rather than saying holy S those things are big and are going to look sick, I figured you would be the guy to say something like "it doesnt make sense, other then pure looks. Its a street tire, it wont hold a decent launch period, i dont care if it is 335 wide or whatever, the rubber is hard as hell. How fng predictable.

Ooh ooh, but it's another chance for you to be "smarter than everyone internet guy." Back handed compliment to the OP so that you can then tell him how he wasted his time and tell him all of the knowledge he doesn't know that he wants from you yet? Sure. Never been done by you before I'm sure. Tell me more about all of the rear ends that you've setup.

I appreciated his effort (for doing it the right way) and said so at the very first of my post. You chose to focus on the latter part because you are looking to be offended. Glad i could be of service to you today
